Macros randomly stop working

My macros randomly stop working. I’ve noticed that sometimes if I try to use my hearthstone in my bag, it won’t activate and I need to place it on my bars and click it for it to work. When this happens my macros also stop working. I’ve provided a short video clip of my macros stopping working as well as the list of all my addons, which is very few.

No idea what’s causing it, but this has been happening for a while now. Any help would be appreciated.

I downloaded wowupio and the latest updates from some of the addons are from a while ago.

It sounds like you have some taint happening that’s blocking protection actions.

If this is easily testable (it happens pretty reliably and not once every couple hours of playing), try disabling your outdated addons one at a time to see if it goes away (bag and bar addons first).

For a more systemic approach (you have a lot of addons and this might be faster), try to disable half your addons and if it continues re-enable those and disable the other half. Once you’ve identified the half of addons that have the issue, halve that half and continue.

From the video you were trying to activate the macro for action button 0 and initially tried doing it with a key combo.

  • were you holding down a modifier key (alt, control, shift or a combo of them)?
  • were you using the normal 0 on your keyboard, or the keypad 0 or something else?
  • If you were using alt/ctrl/shift (in some combo) with 0, do you also have any keybindings for alt/shift/ctrl-0? Like for Pets (the keybinding still is active even when you can’t have pets). For example, if the macro required ctrl-0 to activate and you have a keybinding for ctrl-0, the keybinding is going to interfere with the macro.
  • post the exact macro that failed.

I’ve seen macros break from addons messing with secure functions, generally chat ones. BugStack and BugGrabber can help you track script errors without making the notifications interfere with gameplay.

Turned out to be a alt-tab bugged that held down alt when you tabbed back into the game at the start of an arena match.
