I finally have a setup with macros and keybinds that works great for my healing spec. However, how do you handle macros for your characters other specs? I want to create macros for a dps spec, but I will most likely run out of macro space.
Some macros I’ve written so they work for multiple specs. If I’m on my Holy Priest, it’s one spell. If I’m on Disc, it casts a different spell instead.
I’ve also used BindPad in the past to create and keybind macros within that addon’s profiles, although I haven’t used it since Shadowlands so I’m not 100% sure it still works.
I like to use the same keys for things that are alike, for example, on my druid, moonfire is the DPS equivalent of rejuv. Instead of binding these to two different keys, I use macros to make it a healing spell if I am targetting myself or a friendly target, and moonfire if it’s harmful.
#showtooltip
/use [harm,nodead] Moonfire; Rejuvinaton
I do this on all my hybrid classes that I heal and dps on.
I also use modifications in macros to save space. For example, my travel macro is:
#showtooltip
/use [mod:ctrl] Sprint
/use [mod:alt] Grand Expedition Yak
/use [mod:shift] Azure Water Strider
/use [swimming] Sea Turtle
/use Red Flying Cloud
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear();
can use the mod keys to change what I am clicking on.
I do realize this doesn’t help you NOT run out of macro space, but it does save hotbar space
I have a total of two macros.
One creates a little emoji holding a “grats” sign for when a guildie gets a really cool achievement and I’m paying attention enough to use it.
The other is Moonkin form bound to Sunfire, so that I actually remember to be in Moonkin form after I toss a heal out and go back to DPSing.
I’d be impressed if you pulled that off

There’s a ton of slots available globally, then you have slots per character AND you can get an addon like BindPad that gives you virtual slots if you really are in the mood to make 2,000 macros lol
This actually came up in guild the other day. You can use [spec:1]
and [talent:1/2]
style modifiers within macros.
A friend uses a [spec]
macro like this on his shaman:
#showtooltip [spec:1/2] Lightning Shield; [spec:3,nomod]Water Shield; [mod:shift] Lightning Shield
/cast [spec:1/2] Lightning Shield; [spec:3,nomod]Water Shield
/cast [mod:shift] Lightning Shield
I have [talent]
macros on my WW like this:
#showtooltip
/cast [talent:1/2] Chi Wave;[talent:1/3] Chi Burst
Where talent conditionals are row/column
. So Chi Wave is first row, second column, and Chi Burst is first row, third column.
OMG I always run out of macros on my healers, and I don’t like polluting the general macros with character specific stuff. I’ll have a look at bind-pad, that sounds like it might be exactly what I need!
Since they gave us all the button bloat again, I’ve had to start polluting my general macros with character macros even more than I already had. I wish they’d give us more character specific space.
I don’t cus I don’t use macros.
Where has this been all my life?
I just found out (knew but never trusted) that bartender4 has mouseover functionality for all abilities on specific bars (was asking this for a baseline game feature in a thread this month). Been using it since at least MoP, maybe Cata. Was going on a macro rampage in order to make love rocket queues more fun and quick. Quickly finding out that there are not enough account-wide macro spaces to have mouseovers for all 36 specs. Need to go back through and remove the mouseovers to leave the talent swap macros, @cursor, help/harms and any others. Also need to macro real arena macros too.
Actionbar addon called Neuron. I can’t believe this isn’t in the top 10 addons.
- No limit to the number of bars.
- No limit to the number of buttons on bars.
- Every bar can be configured to react to or ignore any state, e.g. druid forms, modifier keys, spec switch, stealth, etc.
4. Write macros directly on the button without having to use the Blizzard limited macro panel.
It really is my biggest must have addon.
I do wish we had more slots for individual characters. The general macro tab has a lot but theres very few macros that I overlap between characters.
Id like a lot less of those and maybe double the ones on the character tab.
hey…can you toss up an example of this?
Very curious. I wouldnt mind having Resto and balance druid spells on the same macros.
cool.
I’ll be working on macros for the next hour lol
My shaman and Druid both use help/harm mouse over macros, stance bars, and modifiers to make it all work. I’ve been playing so long that some buttons just can’t move. Like moonfire being “3”. I’ve tried moving it, and it just never works.
Dayum…I wish Id known about this a while back.
just toying around with it right now to see what I can get away with, lol
This isnt actually useful, but yeah…/castsequence works like a charm.
#showtooltip
/cleartarget
/targetenemy
/castsequence [spec:1] Starfire, Wrath, ; [spec:4,@player] Efflorescence, Rejuvenation
oh, the wonderfully annoying macros Im gonna make now
Almost all of my macros are just emotes. The train one is my favorite…Choo choo.
Yep. /wink
I don’t macro or even keybind , I still click , mind you I am a fast af clicker xD . I’m not the best by any means but I am far from the worst.
