So I’m trying to macro a few abilities with Help/Harm macros but I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or not. The Macro I’m using is:
#showtooltip Flash Heal
/cast [Help] Flash Heal
/cast [Harm] Smite
So you would think that if I target a friendly player it will cast Flash Heal and when I target a hostile target it would cast Smite, right? Well for some reason whenever I go to test it and target a target dummy it just casts Flash Heal. I’ve even tested trying to cast it on some of the wolves in Elwynn and the rat critters in Stormwind. For reference I’ve got the same macro on this character and it seems to work fine. The macro for my shaman is set up as such:
/cast [help] Healing Surge
/cast [harm] Lightning Bolt
/cast Healing Surge
#showtooltip Healing Surge
Am I doing something wrong with the macro?
Did you try:
#showtooltip
/cast [harm] smite; flash heal
I’m not at my computer right now to test it but I hope this works.

I like the semicolon operator in macros. It’s a little bit like an if-else statement. If the first condition (the target is harmful) is true, then it will cast smite. If not, it will cast flash heal on your target. If there is no target, it should cast flash heal on yourself.
There are a few extra things you could do if you’d like to play with mouseovers and modifiers. Just let me know if you’re interested!

/cast [mod:alt,@player] [@mouseover,help,nodead] Flash Heal; [@mouseover,harm,nodead] [harm] Smite; Flash Heal
Slightly more complicated but does what you want.

Omg, I never could do macro’s right i need a book to learn this stuff. 
This is the way to do it.
Because it means you can have the boss targeted to DPS and still be able to mouseover macro heal, you won’t need to constantly change targets with this macro like you would if you used Wild’s macro above.
The good thing about WoW macros and auras is that even if you suck at making them, there’s people who are extremely good at them and able to make practically any kind of aura or macro that you could possibly need.
I’ve been using a macro like Mutes that I just constantly C+P and change whatever spell I want to cast and that is the entire basis of how I heal lmao.
