MacOS Monterey Beta (Public) & Battle.net client updater

Environment:

  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020)
  • MacOS Monterey 12.0 Beta (21A5268h)
  • Battle.net Version 2.2.1.12983
  • Battle.net Update Agent Version 2.24.2.7380

After the latest patch to update the game client was pushed out I am no longer able to update the game (Neither World of Warcraft: Shadowlands nor World of Warcraft: Classic (TBC)). I am currently on macOS Monterey 12.0 Beta (Public; 21A5268h) and this was the first time batttle net attempted to update since I installed the beta. The BattleNet launcher froze at 1% and would not proceed even after multiple restarting of the BattleNet launcher, attempting to click repair, and attempting to uninstall and reinstall via the launcher. The repair attempt never went through, and when attempting to uninstall to reinstall it continue to warn me that it can not complete that action because a game is actively being updated. At this point the only thing I thought I could do is manually remove the games and launcher from the operating system and reinstall BettleNet Launcher and the games.

As the title says I have solved this problem for me, doing so slightly after posting on twitter to CS and getting a replay to post here, but it took sitting and waiting 30 mins for the setup application to successfully launch after several attempts that resulted in the setup crashing. It seems like something is preventing the Setup and the Launcher from operating correctly after upgrading the operating system.

If you could please let the interesting parties know about this being a problem. Also, please let me know if any additional information if needed from my end. As a beta tester I have come to expect this but I want to be available and provide feedback.

Troubleshooting

  • Closing the Launcher and restarting (Did not produce any result)
  • Restarting the computer (Did not produce any result)
  • Attempting to uninstall and reinstall games via launcher (failed due to error)
  • Built in BattleNet Repair tool (failed to launch)
  • Manual removing and reinstalling (Eventually worked but with crashes)

UPDATE 1)

The installer fully went through and the game World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is fully installed but the game is doing the same thing that the Setup and Launcher did, taking roughly 30 mins to actually start. Do the Setup, Launcher, and Game run through rosetta2? Please let me know if so, I will reach out to Apple with a report that rosetta might be having some difficulties.

[+4 days] UPDATE 2)

It seems as though something has changed resulting in me being able to now launch the game, and update properly. :man_shrugging: I am unsure what it was that changed.
