Mace-Shield or Staff? Help!

So, I like that I have so much armor and, hence, survivability. I have a conundrum today.

I have a 385 staff, which grants:

+50 int
+115 haste
+50 vers

over the mace (370)/shield (400) combo, which grants:

+2277 armor
+6 stam
+88 crit
+78 mast

over the staff.

I mean, it’s more intellect with the staff, and the overall Cilvl does not change (381 no matter which I go with).

I don’t have any idea how to determine which is better. Please help me choose which to take into the raid this evening. I will be so grateful. I don’t typically have mana management issues. I don’t have trouble keeping people up when mechanics are handled moderately well by my folks. So at this point, I don’t know whether the 88 crit will be more powerful or the 50 int. I don’t know how the math works out.

As a general rule you want to go with biggest Int value.

You can play around with the RShaman spreadsheet and getting character specific stat weights if you want to really try min/maxing. If you want to keep it simple though, just stick with highest Int value and use rings to tweak secondaries since they don’t have Int.

If you were deciding between Azerite pieces it would get a little more complicated.

Hello there, staff will be your definite pick due to the int value… 50 int counts for quite a lot. (This is assuming you’re doing pve, where armor loss from not having a shield doesn’t matter so much).

The posts here are correct. Higher amount of int will win out on your choice.

The only factors that do truely matter are if you are doing pvp… you prefer a shield. Or if your xmog looks pretty with a shield.

I am so happy that you understand this. /grin

Thanks. I went with the staff, and we’ll see how we do.

From a purely aesthetic standpoint I always prefer shields and a 1H on my shaman.
