You may be unaware of this, but novels, especially the great ones, have many underlying themes. One such theme is how control and power can be expressed by the purging of undesirable truths by simply rewriting history. In a very small way, that’s what is happening in the microcosm of this game with the constant drive to change names, delete phrases, and remove emotes.

Blizzard would be better off addressing actual in game issues rather than spending time on such pointless pursuits.

Wait. So what happens to the voice lines? Is Velen gonna re-record them or something? Also changing this was so stupid when there is actual content still missing for years. Hello? Vashjir intro cinematic? Hello devs? Paging devs? You there???

That’s what the wikipedias are for.

Removing things that give honor to bad people is NOT erasing history.

Whew! I bet all the refugees, hungry kids, and mental health consumers are stoked. Their problems are over.

Yeah no I understand. It’s job was to replace fact with fiction to fabricate history.

I just don’t inderstand why you would apply it in this case when 1) the setting is fictional not historical 2) the name was changed because it was named after a SA predator

This isn’t “censorship” fam. It’s basic decency not to name a fictional zone after a sexual predator.

I am aware of that.

I’m also aware that this is Blizzard’s private property and they can add and remove as they wish and it has no impact on human society beyond the confines of WoW.

And they aren’t deleting Jesse McCree’s crimes from history, they’re simply removing his name from a part of the game.

“If it doesn’t solve the whole issue in one swoop it’s not worth doing a few small things at a time.”

I don’t take that argument seriously. It’s so terrible. Are you telling me Blizzard isn’t solving world hunger because they’re too busy changing a name?

More like: Care and attention are limited resources. Why waste time on the trivial while the world is burning around you?

The guy skimming through text files usually isn’t the guy with a fire truck.

They aren’t very limited if you’re part of a team that can handle small problems like this.

You can’t have it both ways - either it’s purely fictional or it tied to a real world event. In the former case, no one cares what the name is. In the latter case it’s scrubbing history of a dark event. The question becomes - is it better to make it easier for a predator to be forgotten or to never give him cover to escape what he did? Is it better to have a point of discussion about the evil that occurred, or to make sure no one remembers it?

I’m just tired of a culture that feels good about itself because of its social media and e-activism instead of actually putting some skin in the game.

Hey you wanna volunteer at this under privileged urban school or mow your elderly neighbors yard?
Nah dog, I’m good. I posted a totally fire meme today about equality and changed my profile pic.

Such a Joke! Rename it " Its’Highnoon " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVEecDF_JL4

It’s Blizzard’s fictional world.

They can change it’s narrative to suit it’s values all they want. It literally has no affect on it’s viewers than a mild inconveniece of getting used to a new name.

The name wasn’t even deeply rooted in lore. It’s a name they made up in Legion.

Whether he escapes is irrelevant to what the name is. Either the U.S. justice system does its job, or it doesn’t.

Totally. Social shame that is assisted by remembering a past wrong doesn’t exist.

Just ask Louis CK

Good thing we will still remember it regardless, since it will still be on Wowpedia, like I said.
