By that logic, the name should be changed.
Computers have long since mastered the art of “search and replace”. It shouldn’t take more than a few seconds and no developer effort whatsoever to replace every single instance of the word “Mac’Aree” to “Eredath”.
Heck, coming up with the name “Eredath” was probably the hardest part, and let’s not pretend that name is terribly creative.
The Devs only need to care slightly more than what it takes to ask the computer to do that.
I would be willing to bet real money that less than one tenth of one percent of players would make that connection, and of those less than one percent would care. But like, that’s just my opinion man.
My real point here boils down to the simple fact that Blizzard has more important things to fix.
I suppose I could say that leaving it would be supporting the failures of the past, failures that ended up getting a corrupt employee promoted to the highest level, at which point he was considered worth of immortalization within the game.
Fact: “History” means nothing in this game. When they want to change “history” to support gameplay changes, they do it. It’s called “retconning”, and it happens all the time in this game.

History books and museums are how you record history. Don’t worry, the Wowpedia website will never forget that Eredath used to be called Mac’Aree before 9.1.5.

How about we look at it from a different angle - by removing the name you also remove the reference to a dark time in Blizzards real history. Now, instead of seeing that name remembering the tale of the person it indirectly refers to having been an evil creature that no longer haunts the companies offices, people don’t hear about it at all. That bit of dark history has been scrubbed from the books and is that much less likely to be a topic of discussion.
That’s what erasing history does - it erases the dark times, it’s a cover up when instead it could be a constant reminder that we have to never allow it to happen again.
