Mac M1 - Screen Freezes - Fixed by restarting monitor?

Hello,

Mac Mini M1, new machine running on Big Sur 11.2 and running WoW natively for Apple Silicon.

Yesterday I was in Mists, running around and my entire screen froze, I can still hear everything but it was frozen. I turned my monitor off, then turned it back on and it was fine again.

Anyone ever experienced something like this before? It’s happened twice now.

Could it be potentially one of the settings in video settings? Triple buffering? Or vsync not being enabled?

I am having the same issues today since I upgraded to 11.2 on my M1 Mac mini. Happened to me in Theater of Pain. Happened rarely if ever prior to this update but now the game is stuttering and freezing much more often.

DUDE, YOU ARE MY HERO!

I’ve been experiencing this since upgrading to BS 11.2 on my M1 mini two nights ago. Never experienced the problem even once before then. I’ve been rebooting every time it freezes!

It’s been BAD - last night I froze up within five seconds of rebooting from the last freeze. Froze up four times will running Torghast last night. I was this close to giving up on WoW until this was fixed.

But power cycling the monitor works! You are a genius!

BLIZZARD: I am running a M1 mini with an HDMI connection to a Dell 4K monitor. Hopefully you can use this info to figure out what the problem is and roll out a fix STAT!

I just killed someone’s 15 key due to this. DO NOT UPDATE OSX TO 11.2 until this gets fixed.

Just wanted to chime in and say that I’m actually not having any new issues with 11.2 on a M1 mac mini 8gb. Previously to 11.2, only a handful of times, the game would freeze. This was typically when I take a flight path and would be fine after 5-10 seconds. As for 11.2, I havn’t experienced any new issues with wow.

Thanks for giving me something to try. My wife has the M1 Mac mini and WoW (retail and Classic) worked perfectly until Big Sur 11.2. After 11.2, there would be hard freezing of WoW that sometimes would require a complete forced power off of the computer.

After reading your post, I checked and vertical sync was not enabled. We enabled it and never again has there been a freeze up or any issues. None. Just to note, with vertical sync OFF on Classic, there were no issues, but we enabled it just in case.

For us, vertical sync ON solved any graphical issues with Big Sur 11.2 and WoW.

I have vertical sync turned off because having it on drags down my FPS. I’ll give this a try, though, and see what happens.

EDIT: Activating V-sync does seem to have resolved the problem.

Thanks for the follow up. I’m glad the vsync on helped you. Hope it doesn’t drop your FPS.

Turning on vsync seems to have fixed it for me too. Thanks god.
