The culprit is the Secondary Lighting graphics setting. Keep it set to Fair, and it will work. It looks like there’s some kind of issue with the new volumetric lighting shader and the Metal API that needs to be resolved because retail works just fine on macOS, even with all graphics settings maxed out to 10.
If it loads, but you’re experiencing weird stuttering, some have been able to resolve that by disabling Game Mode or turning off ProMotion in display settings.

I’ve used those workarounds, but performance is abysmal, needs heavy general optimization.
well for me the performance with shadows/secondary lighting on lowest possible and the rest on highest possible is fine, aside from the fact that performance gradually drops over time
There is a 100% tried and true fix for this.
Buy a PC and use the PC for video games.

well given the other threads where pc users complain about 7 fps i wouldn’t say that’s a fix, given i play at 160+ fps before it starts to drop over time)

Mac support has always been garbage across all games.
Most (MOST) games don’t run on a Mac without some janky side-project program to help bridge the gap.
Macs weren’t made for gaming.

My PC is worth more than your Mac. This is irrelevant.
If it’s not, it’s because you purchased a ton of storage at checkout, and you won’t be able to articulate why.
The point still stands, retail and classic run beautifully by every account on Apple silicon. If blizzard doesn’t want to support Mac they shouldn’t have released a Mac client. Go away troll
