Mac app for disabling F key row?

Hi all,

I like keybinding my F1-F5 keys to my big cooldown abilities. I used an old mac app called Palua to disable the MacOS monitor brightness, Spaces toggles, etc. but it seems like the app is no longer in development or on the Mac App Store. While still working today there’s no guarantee a future MacOS update won’t cause it to stop functioning. :frowning:

Wondering if anybody else has any apps that will do similar things? I know the game client has its own disabling key feature but I’ve found this doesn’t always work for some reason.

Which model of MacBook/keyboard and macOS version are you using? There should be an option in the Keyboard preference pane in System Preferences that will allow you to use the F-keys as normal F-keys, making the other functions (brightness, volume, etc) only occur when pressing the F-keys along with the Fn key. Here’s how it looks under macOS Big Sur, but it should look similar with other versions of macOS.

If I’m understanding correctly, this should be all that’s needed, no third party app necessary.

Hi there, thanks for the reply. This would be good if I wanted to disable them across all apps, but I just want F keys for WoW and to leave other apps as the default volume, brightness, etc. when those windows are in focus.

Pretty sure BetterTouchTool will do what you want.
