M4 Pro vs. M1 Max - which is better?

I currently have a 16" M1 Max 32GB/1TB/32GPU. I was wondering if there are any comparisons as to how the M4 Pro stacks up against this. Does anyone have any testing they’ve done or perhaps a website? (I couldn’t find any websites with this direct comparison)

Depends entirely game really. M4 pro would probably run wow way better in raids or other high player dense areas since they’re cpu bottlenecked areas. M1 max still probably ahead on gpu specific heavy areas.

Ultimately if you’re trying to avoid going m4 max though, I’d consider something like best buy which has 2 and even 3 year finance options vs shorting gpu performance. But then again that also depends on if you use mac for more than just gaming. since I use it for video encoding and streaming all the extra cores are quite essential.

Both are equally fine for this game. It comes down to one simple issue, do you want a new computer or not? I am using a M4 Pro and have zero issues with this game. I keep my frame rated capped.

Splurged on myself and traded in my M1 Max for the M4 Max, 128 GB with 2 TB of storage. It gets used for other stuff, but WoW isn’t an issue at all.

It’ll be a beast at anything you throw at it. I went from M1 max to m3 same way and 4 is even 20-25% greater than the M3 max.

I upgraded from the M1 Max to the M4 Max here. I can say the GPU feels much more stable. On the M1 Max certain settings along with spell effects would tank frame rates in spots. The disparity was 60 FPS down to like 23 FPS if there was something the GPU did not like the scene featured (projected textures, compute effects?).

The M4 GPU seems to have similar behavior to modern GPUs versus some of the most dumb / confusing behaviors with the M1 GPU. (Apple being Apple doing stupid Apple things…)

Though I believe some of the Mythics from previous expansions can still have odd shifts in performance at times because of some effect it does not like. Just the drop is not as severely.

Because a variety of issues, I unfortunately won’t be upgrading anything at this time. I’m planning 2 more years and upgrading to M6 Max when it hits. My M1 Max is still crushing this game.

And, for those wondering, I use my computer for EVERYTHING (games, videos, work [teacher], communication…)

Have an M4 Max with 36GB memory and play wow connected to a wide HDR monitor and with max settings i get around 150 fps dips to just under in busy areas. For raids and other content I turn the settings down a little bit and get a consistent 180fps the entire time.

I came from years on the last intel macbook and thought everyone played the game at 25fps lol
