According to raider. io all run leaderboards (purely based on amount of runs, not players btw)
1,172,656 runs (lvl 2 to 3)
1,181,832 runs (lvl 4 to 6)
1,134,403 runs (lvl 7 to 9)
1,367,574 runs (lvl 10 to 14)
1,274,347 runs (lvl 15 and up)
1,172,656+ 1,181,832+ 1,134,403 + 1,367,574 = 4,856,465 runs overall (runs 2-14)
divide that by the amount of 15 runs and over it is 26.240217936297288 %.
26.2% is the amount of M+ runs that are above 15+ and over, keep in mind 15 and OVER.
Blizzard needs to make high keys more accessible, it’s ridiculous that a portion of the playerbase does M+ and even a smaller portion push high keys.

it’s not a lack of accessibility, its a general lack of interest.
the entire M+ concept is not appealing, and you only increase friction the higher the key you attempt.
M+ is directed towards the E-sports community, of which WoW shouldnt be a member. this game sucks as an e-sport.
im not saying my opinion is fact, far from it. However, I bet dollars to donuts there are more people than you think, that simply dont like M+.

Part of why I miss Challenge Modes. I enjoy M+ well enough, but I don’t jump at the chance to run them. They almost feel like an entirely separate game within the game that might work better in a Diablo setting than WoW. However they are extremely popular so the system won’t be going anywhere.

I’m not sure if 15’s are classified as “high keys” anymore. They are plenty accessible, people just don’t care. Nothing wrong with that by the way, a lot of people feel perfectly comfortable doing keys below 15 and have no desire to push higher. Amazingly, a ton of people that play the game don’t care about accolades and getting the best gear available, a ton of people just play to have fun.

We don’t definitively know why more people aren’t doing +15 or higher keys. We can speculate, but there’s no certainty. I mostly do 15-16+ keys each week on my various characters and I don’t think they’re hard or inaccessible at all.
Some tips that have helped me are:
- Learn how to play your class by using easily accessible guides online.
- Join a guild or community that can help you progress in m+ until you’re completing +15’s.
- Don’t stress over failing, use them as learning opportunities to improve and grow.
- Have fun.

I think it is a combo of both. People dislike M+ but they would like to have the chance of a 278 piece of gear in their vault each week. This was why the boosting communities were so popular. They provided a way for people to get their chance at a piece of M+15 vault gear.
The real problem with the data listed is the fact that it is not clear how many players are actually participating in M+. I guess we could assume that those who complete M+ 15 and above complete 8 runs each week in order to get all 3 chances of gear. That would being the number of players to 159,293. But that is just rough math and I’m sure that some of those runs were Boosts runs so the number could be slightly higher or slightly lower depending on how many Boosts the guilds who are allowed to sell runs sell.

How many replies we hoping to hit with this one? 100? 400?

+15 are already entirely accessible as those doing 10-14, specifically 14’s, and pretty much right there.
A 15 is only a newts nose harder than a 14, so those doing 14s can easily step up.
It’s just that some players aren’t interested in doing them higher than a 14 is all.
M+ is mainly popular for its efficient gearing method. Take a look at the feedback M+ has received since SL launched. Gearing is down and M+ popular opinion has never been worse. WoW players have repeatedly shown that they will do whatever gives them the most efficient gearing method. It does not matter how much they hate the content. If it provides the best method for gearing advancement they will flock to it.
M+ does not need to be any more accessible. It is already offered to EVERYONE. No matter how bad a player you are there is a M+ level appropriate for you. The reason so few push high keys is because many DO NOT LIKE M+. M+ is not nearly as popular as the rather small key pushing community would have you believe. Most players do their 8 M+ runs for max vault and stop each week, never really trying to go above 15.
The problem with M+ is not that it is not accessible, just that a very large portion of the player base does not find it engaging or fun.

I would love to do keys, however I just returned to the game and it’s going to take me at least a month to have gear high enough to get an invite.

It’s important to remember to not project. Ion himself admitted that M+ is directly responsible for and has been the biggest success getting people into dungeon content than any system before it. While there are tons of people who hate it, there are at least as many people like me, where it is the only thing keeping them playing or subbing at all.

It’s the inflated gear rewards that do that. Not the content itself.
M+ is easier than heroic raiding but drops mythic raid level loot. It’s absurd. It’s the most massive gear give-away in the history of WoW. Make other forms of play comparable in terms of gearing and M+ participation will plummet like a stone.

Indeed. M+ has never caused someone to unsub, but it has caused many people to remain subbed.
If Blizzard ever hard pushed to make it irrelevant, I would happily watch this game go down in flames.

So is that the reason there are so few cutting edge guilds or high level pvp players as well? Your logic doesn’t hold up to reality. There are fewer people at the extreme high ends for many reasons beyond like or dislike. Time, effort, skill above all.

Your “math” doesn’t describe accessibility. It’s simply indicitave of what was done, not why it was done or why more of one section was done than the other

Any infinitely farmable source of good gear will inflate ilvls.
Which is another problem with M+. Infinitely farmable high-end gear isn’t something the game’s really had before. It breaks the weekly model they’ve used since vanilla.
Yet they refuse to update the rest of the game to match.
15s are absolutely accessible, especially in the current patch with the extensive borrowed power. It feels like 8.3 M+ again to me at least. 15s also aren’t high keys and the rewards for doing them transcend the difficulty. I’d just say that there isn’t enough of a reward for doing truly high keys.
I skipped last season, but Season 1 was a bit less accessible for raiding and M+. Not much, but the difference is noticeable.
Rarely do I agree with you on anything…
It’s not infinitely farmable high end gear, it’s infinitely farmable sub-mid gear
