Hey all,
I mostly play WoW classic in a raiding setting and would like to be able to buy a Macbook to play on the go in a pinch. Would not be a daily driver and would be used for other things like programming. However, I’m a little stuck on which model to get.
My goal is to play WoW Classic at native resolution at 120 Hz at around medium-high settings. It would be nice to future proof it a bit for future retail expansions and to be able to play retail on occasion as well.
Here are the variety of options I am considering:
- 16" M1 Pro, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD => ~1800-2k used
- 16" M1 Max, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD => ~2300-2500 used
- 16" M2 Pro, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD => 2700 new
- 16" M2 Max, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD => 3500 new
What do you think? If I wasn’t playing WoW, I’d likely get the cheapest option since I mostly just want the laptop form-factor and the larger screen.
Thanks in advance!
I have an M1 Max, and still had to resist getting m2 max.
there are milestones between the two. and cpu and gpu performance would be nice. also fact it goes from HDMI 2.0 to 2.1 also makes the built in port for external display way better. 2.0 was handycapped from start.
Ultimately i resisted only cause M3 will be an even bigger milestone with 3nm process.

Hey Omegal. I just bought a new M2 Max MacBook Pro. Fast, beautiful. I am having problems with the trackpad and dragon flying. I was pretty good on my old MacBook 2014, and I have always played with a trackpad. I am feeling it has something to do sith the “secondary click” .Any advice for a trackpad dragon flyer, besides, get a mouse? Thank you

That’s only advice I have. Dragon riding is just not meant for trackpad, especially one that only has a single button that uses touch gestures to simulate left/right click.
This is the best bang for your buck for WoW. BY FAR

HI, trackpad M1 laptop mac user here.
I adjusted my mouse sensitivity, and I used the Setting so that the left edge of my trackpad counts as Right Click. Depending on the shape of your hands, CommandKey as right click might work better for you.
Trackpad use for steering a dragonride works pretty much as “hold down the right mouse button, then scribble on the sky with the other hand’s pointer finger”.
Hey I know this is an old post but did you figure out how to make it work. I’m going insane with this issue.
