M+ Ruined WoW for (not just) me

As the only reliable way of getting gear at a certain point, M+ should, at the very least, feel rewarding.

If you’ve done your raids for the week, done all the primal stuff, done it all, you’re left with 2 options - wait for the RNG vault or hit the Mythics. If you’re willing to put in the work, the rewards should be there at a reasonable rate. They’re not.

M+, on top of being poorly tuned and not much fun to begin with, is now so stingy on loot that I’ve lost all interest in it, and, by default, the game in general. If I can’t reliably progress with hard work put in, what’s the point?

The weekly valor cap being so low makes doing mythics all but pointless unless you’re willing to sacrifice hours of your time for the chance at a drop that probably won’t even help. God forbid you actually go after a BiS item. I’ve done over 20 mythics this week. Got about 3 drops. No upgrades.

This “carrot on a stick” manipulation tactic has been the bane of all fun since its inception. Its sole intent is to keep us around long enough to draw more $ from us. Well, after 18 years, I’m finally over it.

M+ this season is the least fun I’ve ever had playing a game. Combine that with the absurdly low drop rate on pretty much everything and we have nothing left to do except watch world firsts from guilds who somehow managed to get all 418 stuff in a week. Cool.

Literally cannot wait for the Riot MMO to come out. No amount of nostalgia or misplaced loyalty in Blizzard can make this nonsense fun anymore.

The cap continues to go up over the weeks, though. Isn’t this a nonissue by now if you just use the valor you get?

I don’t really know what changed this season vs last season outside of the new dungeons, and the valor cap coming back. So I’m not really sure what’s breaking the camel’s back here.

That said:

  • Valor caps are stupid
  • i’m personally not a huge fan of the dungeon rotations. I’d rather have some consistency instead of needing to relearn dungeons constantly.

I believe the valor caps are there so people can’t go to max gear the first Month of the tier. Just sounds like bad RNG to me, some weeks are better than others, 3 for 18 is pretty bad. But that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Riot’s MMO will still have RNG, but hope you find something you have fun playing.

Could it be that M+ always sucked and now that it doesn’t vomit endless loot at you anymore, more people are realizing it and tapping out?

Jesus Christ it’s still massively more rewarding and completely invalidating of two entire tiers of raiding.

This, Ricky Bobby, attitude of, “If you’re not first, your last” is such a bad way to live. Even in the movie, the Dad admitted he was, “High” and didn’t really mean it as a way to live your life.

There’s nothing wrong with taking it easy and enjoying the game for what it’s worth. You will get gear. You will progress. You will experience all of the content if you want to.

If you have this idea that you should get everything you could possibly get in the first 2 weeks of dungeon running - then what would you do for the rest of the patch? Do it another 10 times on different alts? Ok. Then, what? Do it again? Why? What are you trying to accomplish?

If you’re not having fun doing the content, then do something else. Chasing gear is fine. Obsessing over it at the expense of your own sanity is not.

I think people want and expect Blizzard to solve peoples play-time. Like look at that list of stuff OP posted. Blizzard will NEVER be able to make consistently unique content that doesn’t feel like a wall if you’re playing the game for 40 hours a week. It’s just not possible.

Edit: I think this is why every single xpac feels good by the end for most players. Because at that point there is 3 tiers worth of stuff to do all the time.

Valor caps are there so we stick around and pay them more monthly sub fees.

It’s them saying “hey thanks for the $15, but we’ve actually time-gated everything with dismal RNG so you have to pay us a lot more to ever get what you want. Kinda like a casino, just less fun. But have fun saving Azeroth!”

I realize you’re upset about not getting what you set your heart on, but this is just insincere.

You realize Casinos win far more than they pay out right? Why do people keep going back? (Despite losing) Because they understand that it’s a slim chance. They understand that they’re most likely going to lose, and that it’s the thrill of opportunity that’s fun. Winning is great, but MOST people don’t win. Most lose.

MMORPGs like WoW have to place limits on people, or they’d burn themselves out. (It happens anyway.) Don’t think of it as them being mean to you by restricting your fun. Think of it as them giving you the freedom to experience other aspects of life than just playing WoW all day, every day.

“Having fun” means progressing. I don’t care what my ilvl is as long as I’m not wasting hours on end doing the same dungeons 100x for the chance at loot. That is not fun and never was.

Also, the dungeons they chose for M+ are the worst in WoW’s history and they chose to tune them so poorly that half of them aren’t even worth doing.

This isn’t about handouts. This is simply about no longer accepting the crumbs they feed us. The game has 1,000 different ways to keep you busy and playing, so it’s definitely not about them “keeping us from burning out”. They’d watch us seize up at the computer if it made them more money.

Not sure what you mean by “put in the work”? You can literally buy pretty much everything in this game with gold.

I’m sorry you’re unhappy already with the new xpac.

M+ doesn’t appeal to me at all anymore. The thought of it and I’m just like :unamused:

I don’t know what to tell you. Find another pillar or another game for the time being.

I wish I could que for TW dungeons from any xpac at any given time as well as the AB blizzard bg. I would be one happy camper. Otherwise I love being out in the open world. It’s fun.

Well said. Nothing has really changed, maybe that is the problem.

Where we differ, I kind of like how they are reusing old dungeons. Spicing up boring boss fights.
Like the first boss in jade? Are you kidding me? The first time I saw that, I was hyped as hell. I’ve run that dungeon from mop to now at minimum 1,000 times. It’s great for leveling because it’s so fast and literally brain dead. But the downsides… braindead. It was so lackluster, my eyes would glaze over doing the mechanics. Now, its new and exciting.
I hope they keep it up and bring things in like wailing caverns, SFK and so on.

Mythic plus was far and away the best thing to ever happen to this game, and gave it a ton of a replayability.

Objectively the best thing Blizzard has ever done.

Nobody enjoyed challenge modes when they were current, and did them once and never looked back so at the end of the day I think what people find fun is really just easy/efficient loot, like how keys were.

Ask somebody what their favorite dungeon is and it’ll always be Freehold, Junkyard, Shadowmoon, Streets, etc. The freebies.

That’s fair, and I do get that. I think for me it was just annoying because I just spent time figuring out the new dungeon set and then a month later, we have a new set when the season started I needed to learn. That was what annoyed me the most.

I’d love this.

Well don’t worry, we’ll have this set for probably about 5 more months.

was any gameplay shown yet? last time i looked i couldnt find any so it was hard to muster any hype

I get that. It can be annoying, but at the same time, it’s keeping it fresh. Running the same 8-10 dungeons over a year is super tedious.
I love running m+, it’s pretty much the main thing I do aside from lvling. So keeping dungeon rotation fresh feels almost necessary.

Could you imagine SFK m+ with revamped bosses and stuff? :dracthyr_love_animated:
