M+ rewards make no sense

I did a +22 lower kara, got 79 mementoes…did a +25 CoS…got 38…

When Legion was current, the optimization behavior was farming Maw as it had only three bosses and could be done in just a few pulls - and even with the bit of RP and tentacles at the end, was so much faster than most.

So the remix devs were like ‘we ain’t making that mistake again’ and changed the way rewards work such that they are based on the original timer + number of bosses.

So now the optimization behavior is farming Arcway as it has five bosses plus one of the longer original timers AND can be cleared in remix in just a few minutes.

WoW devs versus players trying to optimize, and the devs fail again.

still doesn’t make sense as to why i got more than double in a key 3 levels lower that only has 1 more boss than CoS

Did you beat the timer by the same amount?

Also what is the original timer for lower versus the original timer for Court (if I recall, Court doesn’t have a very long timer)?

Court also sucks cause you’re almost sure to eat up time doing the stupid puzzle - no amount of overgearing will let a group run through that nonsense.

no idea…but it sounds like i’m better off dropping my key levels down to 22 so i can blitz them faster as opposed to running higher keys and being slower

as for the puzzle, i can kinda cheat as a DH(my remix toon), run through talk to the 5 rumor mongers and then hit spectral sight and the spy lights up red

Pretty sure it depends on the timer. The same group can beat one timer by 60%, but another by only 40% due to layout, forced rp, etc. This is why Arcway is the holy grail for farming…groups can split and clear it with like 90% of the allowed time left so it will always yield more rewards, given the same player power and difficulty level, as other dungeons. I don’t know the exact formula to determine maximum difficulty-to-reward ratio, but time seems to be the biggest factor.

Yeah demon sight is nice to have for that - but still time that can be gained in non-RP no-wait for NPC instances that give an advantage to places like Arcway.

The original Arcway timer was high, it has five bosses, yet the layout lets a group split up and kill the bosses then nuke the last together and complete the run in just a couple of minutes.

It takes a couple minutes to talk to the five people, talk to spy, get spy to walk outside, then unlock door and wait for last boss in CoS.

The amount of Mementos awarded seem to be determined by two factors, in this order specifically:

  • How fast you clear it compared to the total time allotted to the key
  • What level the key is

The first point being weighted very heavily. This is why Upper Kara and Arcway are preferred dungeons for farming Mementos and even keys as low as 30 are almost instantly filled. When you have a dungeon that has a 45 minute timer (Arcway) that can be cleared in less than 5 minutes it makes for a very large reward. The same goes for Upper Kara, it’s just not as big of a gap. It has a 35 minute timer that can be cleared in 6 - 10 minutes.

After running dozens of keys, my conclusion is the number of tokens you get is influenced by the timer length and the number of bosses. 3 boss dungeons don’t award a lot.

I did a 22 NL, so 4 boss dungeon and still only got 39…cleared in a similar time as lower kara I think

Not how fast you clear it. How long the timer is.

Yep, M+ rewards go by total key timer, it doesn’t matter how long you personally spent in there. A +2 Arcway gives the same rewards as a +20 Maw of Souls.
