M+, Monk/Paladin Discussion

So I’m an old guy with not a lot of time. I’m coming from a druid main and looking into making a tank alt (for those fast, fun q’s). I’m having trouble deciding between monk and paladin and was hoping ya’ll could give me your input. I mainly do up to +10’s and nothing above, and only PUG since I have an unusual schedule. My thoughts about classes are below.

Monk is fun, the drunken master who shrugs it off. Even though I smooth the damage, I feel like I take a lot of damage. I like it but getting C&S is a super pain as well.

Paladin is fun as well, but the windows of just getting chunked really turns me off of the spec. I love having the BS amount of utility though.

I’ve tried Warrior and found it to be okay, but not really my cup of tea. BDK was pretty fun, but getting chunked when you first pull made it a turnoff. VDK was fun but hate choosing between damage and tankyness.

Thank you all.

I leveled the Monk and it was so much fun till.
M+8 in Legion…
Self healing is right over the dead mob.
Even rolling Thu would kill me.
But it was just me…
Going down the steps into he’ll was the best moment.
Recorded 64 million DPS with the two items ;Trinket and waist I still have on.
A Hunter had just triggered me by whispering me a dps read out of me at 460k and him at 490k .
I torpedoed down the steps and hit every mob above 90% health turned around and hit the Trinket. The others that was following me did the rest.

I have both at 120 and prefer the synergy of Monk. Brews, Stagger, Ox orbs… it keeps my interest more than Paladin.

Though I will say Pally has the edge in situations dealing with multiple spellcasters, e.g. Shrine, while Monk seems to handle physical damage a bit better. It just comes down to preference. It comes down to the question: which can you play longer without getting bored?

Prot pal is reliant more on the right traits more than monk I feel.

I have fun with both honestly, with monk being the easier.
However with my prot pally I can do the same amount of healing or more than the healers in m+. It’s pretty fun and makes the run that much easier on the healer for sure

BrM rotation is not very fun in this meta.

The problem is that all of our best talents are passive. We lost a lot of buttons for the sake of min/maxing.

We replaced BoB for Light Brewing, we replaced Healing Elixer/DH for B&W, and what hurt most of all is losing BoC for HT.

If you don’t mind not playing the best possible spec for the sake of a more fun gameplay experience, then you should go BoB/DH/BoC to make the tanking experience a bit more fun.

I pretty much always out heal healers on brm unless the whole party is taking massive damage. And in raid I always out heal the prot pally

i would say Prot unless you are good at monk. Prot is more forgiving than monk ( Comes with a Insurance Policy). Monk is getting Nerf and Prot is getting buff in essence in next patch. Few new Azerite Traits will give prot Paladin Ridiculous amount of Haste giving 100% SOTR Uptime ( Like Warrior IP & SB). Verdict is Paladin will be more durable in Next Patch due to more SOTR uptime.

It’s a paper nerf. With how the power curve is this xpac this is just to make sure they dont massively outperform the rest of the other tanks, but they will still be the best for progression
