Hi all
I didnt mind it at first but after doing dozens of +10s to 12s. Why does rain of fire HAVE to be a cursor location based spell?
I understand stuff like shadowfury but why rain of fire. Especially since during a big pull where you cataclysm like 15+ elites and drop an infernal you will spam rain of fire like 5+ times back to back in global.
Would it hurt for there to be an option to use rain of fire based on the target you are looking/focused on?
Having to keep your cursor focused on an area for several seconds does impede gameplay. There’s forced mechanics that can also mess that up. I’m sure i am not alone in experiencing this… for example in Siege there are mobs that will pull you in. Sometimes that can affect you while you are spamming rain of fires. And also in places like Mists there are mobs in the maze that will knock you back. That can also mess you up when you’re focused on keeping your cursor set on where the pack of mobs are. Let alone any heavy movement moments will require you to keep your cursor on the pack of mobs to rain of fire and any sort of ground mechanics you have to dodge would be simply be easier to deal with if you didnt have to focus on always keeping your cursor on a pack of mobs.
I’m just wondering what is the downside of wanting this to be an option for rain of fire? Even a glyph to activate that option or something.

I guess the downside would be if you’re targeting a mob that’s on the outside of the cluster your RoF might not hit everyone but honestly yeah that glyph sounds nice, sometimes i lose position of my mouse even with a WA circling it lol

You can also LoS the chain pull too. Or instant circle before you land.
My complaint with RoF these days or more so how small the radius is. Plus how it doesn’t even work correctly on the dawnbreaker boats.

Use a macro for both of these situations. You can make a macro that targets either at the cursor or at the target. Im typing this on a mobile so can provide any links but there are a ton of guides for how to create macros on the web.

I use @cursor …better tank prediction.
This also removes targeting circle, OP
You need to burn 2! Talents to get that functionality on a DH.
I think the macro would look like:
/cast [@target] Rain of Fire
Didn’t @Target macros get assassinated two expansions ago because hunters were yeeting out traps in PVP too well?
Honestly, area targetted spells died out a very long time ago and need purged. They are just cumbersome and make play less enjoyable, especially in situations like now when we get to use rof alot.
Player agency is always best. Give players glyphs that allow us to choose @ mouse, @target @focus, etc… i mean what does blizz loose by doing it? We are wayyyyy past the days of being locked behind spell use.
I really only use @cursor macros for RoF and Cata.
How about we bring back Hellfire, but instead of having it center on the warlock, change it to a targeted spell that causes your target to burst into flames and erupt with hellfire, damaging everything nearby.
Just a thought
Although I will say I do like the Rain of Fire visual, so the hellfire would have to look really good to compete

Ive noticed some people play with a circle that surrounds their cursor to keep it easier to visually track. I might try it myself.
I have that circle and I still struggle to find my mouse sometimes
I ALWAYS struggle to find my mouse. I find myself shaking it all the time or focusing onkeeping it in a certain position on my screen so i can find it. Its a real headache.
I highly recommend it. You can find some that also include a visual that lines up with your cast bar and will have a visual for GCDs as well.
Always wished for the Swtor style of AoE spells. Inwhich if you double click or hit a ability twice it will just go onto your target.
I like that it is targeted at my cursor. I do like the idea of people having an option though.
I think what makes it easier for me is I have RoF bound to a mouse button. So it’s fairly intuitive to mouse over and press the button on the side of my mouse. I would hate doing that it I used the keyboard for RoF.
For anyone considering getting a WA for your mouse cursor, you should. You should make it big and obvious. I have two circles. One larger one to help me find the general direction, and a smaller one within to actually pinpoint the mouse
I really love the spam rof playstyle tbh. It feels good to use it again and have it be meaningful. But like everyone here, the targetting definitely needs fixed.
I would kill for the 3% fire damage talent to also make it so that RoF is place under your current target instead of targeting reticle.
will blizzard realize M+/Raid encounters arent cleave dummies sitting at one spot?
give us boomkin’s starfall design already
