M+ Deserters... let's chat

I am certain I am not the only one who is experiencing this, and amongst my guild and friends, we’ve been trying to come up with a suggestion to bring to Blizzard on these awesome guys and gals who decide to pull a ton of stuff, find out they don’t have what it takes to tank/kill/heal through it, and desert an active Mythic + key. And so, here are some thoughts.

  1. If you are the kind of AWESOME PERSON who is doing this, may your heater stop working at your house and in your car on the coldest of days. May your refrigerator lose power and all of your food spoil. I am so sick of players like you.
  2. To BLIZZARD - Implement a VOTE TO END KEY option for mythic plus in progress. This will allow a group to unanimously decide to end it without any penalty or debuff.
  3. We need something done to slow key abandonment down. Why not up the ante on the deserter buff concept a little bit? For example, if a player leaves a key while it is active, they get a debuff until the following weekly reset. You can call this debuff whatever you want, but Coward is a fitting term. This debuff will show everyone in Dungeon Finder that he or she has bailed on a dungeon before the key was finished when the effected player tries to queue through dungeon finder. Obviously, they can still run keys, but they need to do it with their own group instead of burdening other people’s time.
  4. If none of this works for you, then add an option for us to report a player specifically for abandoning key, add a strike system to him/her, and be willing to suspend their rights to queue for EXTENDED periods of time. Not like the current ‘deserter’ buff that AFKers get. That thing is practically useless. PENALIZE the people who are PENALIZING other players’ time and effort we sink into this game.

Open to any other ideas of suggestions from the community.

TL;DR:

Someone’s upset.

play better and people will stop leaving your keys :man_shrugging:

edit: in before “you’re one of the leavers!”… i’m not. i don’t remember the last time i bailed on a key. i haven’t been the first to leave any yet this season, at least.

What would you do in a situation if a group has 100+ deaths and they’re holding the group hostage from wanting to leave?

As stated - add an option for Vote to abandon key. Make it a group consensus.

And what if they refuse to pass the vote

Drac, just tossing this out for suggestions. Obviously there are a lot of variables to consider, but ignoring it is tired.

Your first idea is for someone’s to lose their heating during winter. You might want to consider taking a break.

I don’t feel like you really want to chat.

I hear you, and wasn’t going to say you’re one of the leavers. But, we’ve had so many instances on 10+ keys where, even with time left to spare, we’d die a couple of times (group wipe) and a healer or a DPS would just freaking bail. More and more, people don’t grasp the concept of 'if you pull 10 mobs on Fortified week when you’re undergeared, you’ll probably die."

Then i suppose they leave and take the full penalty.

If the run has devolved to the point that forfeit with no peanlty is an option im sure players would rather use that then be penalized for abandoning the run.
if they are given a tool to bypass the penalty and stubbornly refuse to use it then that is on them.

Call it dry humor. Let it be, bud.

I get that. This exact idea has been thrown out there more times then I can count. I to want something done about deserters, but the reality is, regardless of whatever is added (if at all), it won’t come without significant cons.

i mean, it happens. i see it occasionally, and it’s frustrating. but it’s not a frequent thing in my experience.

Suggestion, only the first toon to leave the key gets the debuff.

I would be fine with that. Seeing as once 1 leaves on a 9 or higher, the likelihood of it being able to be completed for MOST groups would be low anyhow.

I recently installed character notes: Character Notes - World of Warcraft Addons - CurseForge

It lets me keep notes (both positive and negative) on characters, so if someone requests to join my key again after being a goof they’ll get a big 'ol deny. The note appears in their tooltip.

I leave a date too, so I can reconsider inviting them in 5 years or something. I’m not unreasonable

This is already understood if you join any group not mentioned/advertised as “completion/chill run”

You say that, but we’re not talking about an understanding. You have individuals acting on their own behalf because of whatever reason, regardless of what the advertisement states. Im not sure many folks give that much thought, but I could be wrong…

Would just promote trolling.

One person would be done with the key and they would just grief by pulling extra stuff and wiping you until the rest of the group voted to end key.

Get rid of 15s penalty for dying.

Right now a wipe = a full minute and 15 seconds off the timer, plus the amount of time it takes you to run back. In past expansions, a wipe didn’t necessarily mean a bricked key. In TWW a wipe is far more punishing, and so a lot of people are just throwing in the towel if they see a full wipe.

Honestly your best solution is to just not full wipe.
