For the new M+ deserter mark system to work a few things need to be true:
Someone leaving the group after the timer ends, even without a vote, needs to not incur the penalty. At that point the run is considered “failed” by most people, and nobody should be forced to stay.
Gameplay sabotage needs to be a reportable and actionable offense for dungeons and not just pvp. If one person holds the group hostage or griefs or trolls or whatnot, or if the entire rest of the group votes down abandonment without intending to finish the dungeon just to pick on one player, that needs to be met with account action.
Disconnects need to be treated the same as leaving without a vote in all cases. I get that sometimes people have connection issues, but “fake dc’s” are quite common, and in any case the result for the rest of the group is the same. If for some reason someone DOES have enough connection issues that it causes them to get the mark, they shouldn’t be attempting M+ IMO.
The “Standard” group type tag in the group building tool for M+ needs to be removed. Players should instead be forced to choose either “Beat Timer” or “Completion”, without the game giving you default choice (i.e. the game won’t let you list the group without affirmatively picking one or the other). That way there’s no ambiguity in the listing info.
Finally, something that is not strictly speaking necessary but would help immensely: make any new M+ dungeon timers shorter. I’m thinking around 25 minutes or less would be optimal. This wouldn’t come with 11.2, but people are busier and more impatient than ever and dungeons that are shorter would be appreciated, I think.
OP is mega correct, although point #2 would be pretty hard to implement. As the above poster suggested, how can you tell if a player is just sandbagging a bit in order to make wipes more likely and eventually induce a vote to abandon? Pretty tough for blizzard to actually police that sort of behaviour.
I would think chat logs would be enough to determine whether or not someone is griefing. As for someone playing badly, that’s just a risk you take with pugging. I very much doubt people play badly on purpose.
No, I mean that would no longer be a choice for people listing groups to make.
But if the vote fails, time is going to be wasted for the one wanting to leave regardless.
It would be wasting less time if one were to speed it along. And make time expire quicker. Which is more deaths. Or to convince others to vote to abandon.
If you can’t convince the rest of the group to abandon then leaving IS still an option. The deserter mark doesn’t actually prevent you from making or joining groups, it just makes other people wary of you.
And besides I don’t think anything you’re concerned about will actually happen. People typically know their limits.
I don’t think it makes any difference how the listing was labeled, if you’re say, deliberately causing wipes. That’s still gameplay sabotage. And why would you, specifically, want to do that anyway? You sound like a real jerk. Not someone I’d want to play anything with let alone M+.
I was just curious why you wanted to change the labeling, if it had no effect on the M+ deserter system.
Because it makes any change in labeling sorta meaningless.
I am explaining the faults of the suggestion. I am not literally saying I would do that. But I am explaining how there is this huge whole in the system that will allow someone to do it.
