Luminous Luminaries

New micro-holiday that hardly anyone has noticed!

The GG Engineers (of Brawler Guild notoriety) are in the Abyssal Depths of Vashj’ir for today only! At 45:37, marked by a star when you get close.

Put on a light helmet and get eaten by a whale shark! Possibly something else happens too, who knows? Go and find out!

Thank you for telling me about this micro holiday. Plus I liked Vashj’ir myself. I know I’m weird.

Vashj’ir was my favorite zone back in the day. So much so that I didn’t even DO Hyjal until right before Pandaria came out…

I love scuba diving and that zone made me feel like I was underwater. Forget that Whale Shark though haha.

Whenever I see Vashj’ir I immediately wander away but the idea of being inside of a whale shark is tempting.

I just might.

I refuse to acknowledge the existence of Vash’jir.

FYI, the whale shark insta-kills you.
The event rewards 3 buffs that must be bought with special currency: a helmet that allows you to breathe underwater, jellyfish jelly that makes jellyfish follow you, and a 200% swim speed boost. (My Forsaken has underwater breathing anyway so I didn’t try it out, but I can confirm the jellyfish and swim speed boost work in other zones.) The items say “requires luminous luminaries” so I assume you have to use them on the day of the micro holiday. The buffs last 5 days each.
The quest to acquire the currency (research notes) is pretty simple. Go to the Abyssal Depths, find the submarine (marked on your map by a star) and equip a diving helmet. Turn the light OFF and swim to the south. When you see a blue glowing jellyfish, eel, or grouper, click on it and it will follow you. Then, swim back to the submarine. Turn on your helmet light ON and you will automatically create research notes. Periodically, a whale shark will circle around from the west. When you see it, turn your light OFF or it will one-shot you. After it’s passed, turn your light on again and you’ll start making the research notes again. The glowing fish only follow you for 10 minutes before swimming away.
