Are Lumber Nodes across midnight zones fewer than TWW?
In Dorn areas, I could land on a tree, and see another 1-2 nodes just a short flight away.
Now, I can fly across a zone almost half way and maybe see 1, then fly more and maybe another.
Anyone else have same issue?
It’s been like this since launch. No idea if a bug or intended, but considering it’s current content, would lean toward intended.
If you don’t mind the flight, Quel’thalas is a good farming spot with little interruptions.
Harandar has many more nodes, but they’re often camped by mobs.
Zul’Aman is about in between the two, give or take.
Thanks at least I know it might be intended, and I’m not the only one. I never mind fighting mobs etc, just not seeing any nodes and I could cover almost the entire zone. Lol

Oh yea, in the jaw, mine are swollen too.
I was almost done counting and someone came up on a cell phone asking for’the number’ and was all like telling
555 … and I lost count .

It might not just be a case of fewer nodes but a case of a longer respawn timer.
In many expansions, I can pick a relatively small area of a zone and continuously go from node to node. If I find myself outpacing the spawn, I can just slightly widen the area that I’m circling and I’m good. I have even noticed times when I pause for a minute or so after harvesting a node, that another one has already respawned in the vicinity during that brief pause.
I have not found this to be the case in Midnight zones.
There should be an achievement called fastest axe in the West for harvesting four or more nodes in less than one minute in the midnight expansion
Lumber Nodes could seem less available in Midnight because there are more people gathering as well… Nodes won’t last forever after that first swing.
I’m seeing this in SL areas. The nodes are very spread out. Needlessly spread out.
I’d like to craft some stuff, but it takes a very long time to gather lumber.
I don’t remember it being too bad in the SL areas. I just recently gathered a bunch there. I tried all four zones and they all seemed pretty decent though I think the Venthyr area was slightly better since the orange glowy axes show up better in that zone (at least in the dark woody areas). I think Ardenweald was the most annoying as there are just so many trees that you have to hunt around more to find the right one with the axe. In any event, it was still a lot better than trying to just farm lumber in Midnight zones.
I’m in SL zones now. Maybe someone else is farming lumber before me, but it’s quite a trek from node to node.
It’s possible they felt closer since I was mining ore at the same time. I know it was still not as bad as the Midnight zones.
I’m sitting on hundreds of thalassian lumber because the stuff I make isn’t selling fast enough to use it up and I don’t want to buy new mats until the old stuff sells. Eventually I will need some of the pieces myself, so I’ll use it then. I don’t fly around, per se, and farm it. I just go do dailies and events and fish, and pick the lumber when I’m there. It could be a screen refresh thing, since I’m on the ground and moving slowly I don’t zip past the lumber before it renders on the mini map.
I’d say you’re seeing more on Dorn because it is the previous expansion, Midnight is the current expansion so more people are out playing the Thalassian lumber zones and incidentally picking up lumber.
I find it varies by realm. I have a character on Dalaran that I parked in a particular area in Outland because I can circle there continuously and farm olemba lumber nodes that are close together. There is also some good mining and herbing there. However if I go there on my main realm, I never see that much lumber.
I only ran into an issue like that once though both characters were on the same realm. I found a lot of nodes in Hyjal in the ‘starter area’ and in the next area over when I first farmed there on my main. I later went there on my Druid because Druid gathering is OP and couldn’t find any lumber nodes at all. I flew to some of the other areas in Hyjal and found a bunch in the burned areas but when I flew back to where I first looked there was still nothing. I think the one area must have been phased for my Druid because I don’t think I did any of the Hyjal questing on him. I did not do further experimentation to narrow down the explanation since I found an acceptable area to farm.
Yes, that may be what happened. Cataclysm zones are phased. It was the first expansion to really use phasing to create the sense of campaign progress. Once you have finished the campaign, the lumber nodes in Hyjal are all on the west side and look like this:
I must be remembering it backwards then. I know my main finished the campaign so it must have been him that couldn’t find the nodes that I had previously farmed on my Druid.
Yeah, I remember they went really heavy into the phasing in Cata. It was cool when it worked right but really annoying when you were out farming and you couldn’t get at some nodes because they would disappear right as you got to them (and then reappear if you moved far enough away only to disappear again).
