Lumber drop rate

Blizzard, please increase the amount of lumber you get when chopping. 1-2 is insanely low. especially if someone is trying to make several of 1 item. on AH most items are over 7k a piece and its probably because getting lumber is so scarce. taking hours if not days to get enough to make what you want. for instance, my house is going to have the pandaren stone wall as a fence, in order to surround my yard with that fence, i will need 98-100 fences. which to craft means i need 1500 bamboo lumber. and getting 1 mostly with an occasional 2 is absurd. please consider increasing the amount of lumber for chopping

Came here looking for this same post hoping I wasn’t alone in this. This grind is utter insanity. Most furniture pieces require a ton of lumber, especially when you want to make several pieces. Instead of playing the actual game the last few weeks, all I’ve been doing has been investing my time in harvesting lumber.

Upping this.
The nodes have a cast time…
Then they drop 1 per node… (2 if you are lucky, 3 if you are INSANELY lucky)
And the nodes are mega spread out…
And the nodes disappear while chopping them if someone else has chopped them before you…

Its not FUN

PLEASE. I get more HERBS than I do lumber.

I spent an entire day in Draenor getting Shadowmoon lumber to get barely enough to make 5 of the draenyhst light thingies

I would have thought that most players would be done with their profession stuff. Sure, a favored piece might be worth going out again into a zone. We’ll be moving into Midnight and (I think) that we’ll leave the old profession stuff behind.

However, crafting fences for around your plot is a very big job. You knew that it would be when you started. Complaining about lumber doesn’t feel right. I mean, if you are stubborn enough to insist on this kind of crafted fence then you must be stubborn enough to go farm the lumber and materials.

The idea is that it’s supposed to take time, you do it as you go, every character you have can do it, you slowly build up your lumber and make stuff. The problem here is that we need to go back to older expansions because housing was released after 20 years of prior content was already done.

There needs to be a way we can use the newer expansion lumber to convert to older lumber, because now we have a terrible choice to make, do we play Midnight? Or do we play Wrath? But no, we also want items from SL and BFA so we need to also go back to those expansions and fly around finding lumber.

So when Midnight launches, if I still want lumber from prior expansions, too bad, I won’t because I have newer content I want done.

What? You completely missed the mark on what this thread is even about. It doesn’t matter which expansion you go back to. The scarcity of lumber is literally in every expansion.

Yes Blizz just recently gave lumber a slight buff, but it’s still no where near enough.

That’s the point.

We are not supposed to be doing housing and getting everything done in like 3 days. Take your time and enjoy the game.

Now I’m wondering if you’re just trolling  Bad design is bad design. Not sure why people like you try to ignore that. For example, I need hundreds of a specific decor item in 1 of my houses. It costs 20 lumber each, 20 of motes of harmony, and about 20 ghost iron ore (this one is easy to obtain). It takes about 15 min on avg to farm 20 lumber and about 30 min on avg to farm 20 motes of harmony. The ghost iron ore is probably about 5 min, but you’re looking at close to an hour to farm a single piece.

This is not considered slowing players down and forcing us to grind. There’s a clear difference between inconsistent, bad design and making players put in some work to be rewarded.

And to double down on this, it’s very clear Blizzard’s stance on WoW has now become making everything simpler and faster. The game is now catered primarily to players who don’t want to put in the work that old WoW vets had to put in during WoW’s early years. So then why is lumber’s availability reminiscent of a Vanilla-era grind while the rest of the game is moving on?

That’s a rhetorical question. It’s for you to consider, not to answer. Make it make sense.

Mate I need like 5.5K worth of lumber for what I want, and I don’t care that it takes me 20 minutes to get 50 lumber to only make two items, I do it when I have down time, look around and enjoy the zones I haven’t been to for years, find some rares I haven’t killed in forever, maybe chance getting an old pet or toy I am missing.

Hell I could even run into a VT portal in Nagrand while I am at it.

Housing has no bearing on anything in this game, you don’t need all the items right now, you are not missing out on anything by ‘falling behind’ with your house, take your time and smell the roses.

Seems like a lot of you have forgotten what it is like to slow down and take your time with something.

Personally, I’d also love a quicker gathering-speed too, like my tauren has for herbing. :person_shrugging:
Both however — would be superb

Yeah, at the current drop rate of lumber it’s not worth my time for me to craft decor to sell on the AH. Time is more valuable than what prices are. I have better things to do in game.

What these people are purposely omitting is that housing is not going anywhere, there is nothing seasonal about it, if it takes you 6 days, 6 months, or 6 years to get all your stuff for your house you miss nothing, not a single thing, it’s all still there.

On the contrary, because it’s such a low drop rate it’s worth it, like some items I was making yesterday were listed for 10’s of thousands and since the raw mats cost me peanuts, I could have listed half a dozen items, that took me around 20 minutes worth of lumber farming, and if they sold it would have been over 100K profit.

You claim this.

But then also say this.

  1. Seems like the motes are the grindy part. Why aren’t you asking for increased drop rate for those?
  2. I think you are either not farming very efficiently or not actually tracking how long it takes. I suck as a gatherer and I can collect at least 150 lumber an hour which is almost double the rate you’re claiming.

I thought you people who love housing wanted more chores to do? - blizzard probably

It’s called “Farming” for a reason. Increase the drop rate will lower the profit when I sell stuff. Stop ruining my gold making because you can’t farm wood. Take Adderall.

The Lumber system is the one and only reason i barely touched housing. I refuse to spend weeks grinding enough Lumber for 1 house. They need to fix the system. I know they will too so imma just wait and enjoy other games.

Yeah its pretty dootie, hoping over the long term support they’re promising housing will get they reduce the grind a bit. I do like how it makes all the old crafting stuff worth doing and profitable even.

  1. Uh yeah the amount of motes needed for the particular decor item I need should be nerfed, but this thread isn’t about motes, it’s about lumber. And lumber is what you need for every decor piece, not motes.
  2. You are not farming 150 lumber an hour in Pandaria. I use addons like Routes, GatherMate, and Looter. I know exactly where the densest locations are for Pandaren wood. I even have a path I follow. If I’m getting 20 lumber every 15 minutes, which is just a rough estimate, then that’s 80 per hour. If it’s 20 lumber per 10 minutes, then it’s 120 lumber in an hour. For you to hit the speed you’re claiming, you’d have to be hitting 12-13 nodes of lumber every 5 minutes and I guarantee you are not doing that so stop the cap.

Every tree should be farmable.
