LUA warning/error, entire UI resets

Occasionally ill log into wow and my entire UI will reset with a LUA warning:
Message: WTF/savedvariables/Blizzard_Console/lua:1: unexpected symbol

Blizz seems to think it is one of my add ons causing the issues.

I use twitch app and have about 15 add ons. I can provide a list of addons if that will help resolve this issue. Please help me out here, my entire UI resetting is frustrating. Thank you

Are you not exiting the game properly all the time?

Not a solution to the problem but I’d recommend you back up your \WTF\Account\[NAME]\ folder on a weekly basis, if you’re not already doing so. That way you can quickly restore your settings if they get nuked. I personally use http://robomirror.sourceforge.net/ to back mine up.

What is the proper way to exit the game? Thank you!

Via the exit game button on the various screens.

I’m wondering if you’re alt-f4ing or playing in windowed mode and clicking the x in the top right corner for instance.

I alt f4 a lot.

That’s probably what’s corrupting your saved variables then, stop doing it.

Ok thank you. Now what should i do to solve things aside from that?

  • Completely exit the game.
  • Open your WoW folder using whatever file navigator your system uses.
  • Go to the _retail_\WTF folder.
  • Rename the SavedVariables folder to something else (SavedVariables Saved).
  • Start the game.

It should solve that error as the game will re-create the folder/files when you log-in again.

ok so it recreated the folder but the (SavedVariables Saved ). is also there. Should i delete this folder?

You can delete it if you like.

I don’t like suggesting people just delete things until they have something that works.

Even then, it doesn’t hurt to make an occasional backup copy of the Interface and WTF folders “just in case”.

You can also exit the game by typing “exit” in chat.
