I’m experiencing an issue where when I log into a character, I’m able to play the game as normal for about 10 seconds before I get the display for addons causing Lua errors. I am used to these messages and I typically can just close them and move on, but this time when this message pops up I’m unable to close the message or click the Disable Addons option. I’m also unable to open the game menu via the escape key, and opening the game menu manually works but clicking the logout and exit game options doesn’t do anything. Also, probably the weirdest part about this issue, the sound effect that plays when this type of menu pops up replays very rapidly indefinitely.
Clicking the logout and exit game options tells me one of my addons (in this first case it was AllTheThings) is preventing regular UI from working and I’m given the option to turn off said addon. At first, I did turn off an addon that the game told me was causing an issue, but the issue was still continuing to happen, and the game told me this time that a different addon (DBM-Core) was causing the same issue. This is the point where I gave up and closed the game.
I’ve spoken to people who also have AllTheThings and DeadlyBossMods active on their game and they haven’t experienced an issue like this. The game itself and all of the addons I use are all up to date. I’m not sure why this is happening, and it’s preventing me from playing the game, so I’m a bit bummed out. Has anyone else experienced an issue like this?
Close the game, rename the WTF and Interface folders, login and confirm that everything works. If so, begin to add addons back until you find the culprit. Addons can break other addons so the message does not necessarily indicate the root cause.
