LUA Error every 20 seconds - No addons

I am constantly getting this LUA error, no rhyme or reason to it, No addons installed…
Almost making it unplayable as it will popup mid screen while tanking a dungeon, really really annoying… I have no web surveys that show up to fill or do, so not really sure but it seems like its failing on the back-end and not anything i can do about this

Edit: Definitely happening due to something on the backend, every time I open a blizzard ticket online that I put in that has been resolved this error pops up in game, Blizzard Can I get some help with this???

Ya, doesn’t have anything to do with that. This isn’t a local issue as stated in my edit.

Hey there,

Those LUA errors are usually due to add-ons or damaged files. There have been bugs also that cause them. They can be quite annoying to track down the cause, yet some troubleshooting can be done before going the bug report route and waiting for a fix.

On that note, I didn’t see a verified bug for this specific LUA error.

While you don’t use add-ons, damaged files within the UI can cause a problem so doing a reset of it can still help. It usually isn’t needed for this, but you can combine this with a reset of the server side settings by typing the following command into chat: /console cvar_default

Should this persist past the resets, then a bug report in-game is best so the developers can get some eyes on it.

Lastly if the error keeps coming up, you can turn off LUA errors by typing the following command into chat: /console scriptErrors 0

Hopefully this helps out!

I was also dealing with this issue, any time I open up the help menu it was giving me LUA errors, as well as randomly throughout gameplay.

The “/console cvar_default” command seems to have cleared the error, thanks.

Interesting that you are both posting on Classic toons… I just looked up the source code, and this particular error would occur if you had the Shadowlands version of a particular file (HelpFrame.lua) but not the Classic version of it.

A bugged install of WoW seems like a very plausible cause… if for some reason your classic install got corrupted with a retail file?

Do I have to type /console scriptErrors 0 every time I log in or go through a load screen, because when I enter that into the chat box, then type /reload, the same;

Lua Error pops up.

Also, this only started occurring after I used the unstuck feature to get my Dwarf unstuck from underneath a sign post, and when i go to my resolved tickets, thats the only Resolved Ticket there.

You probably have a GM survey waiting or trying to display. I noticed “no addons” was mentioned in the thread, but does that mean disabled or completely not installed? Just a notice that disabling addons doesn’t prevent them from interfering from the game, it’s more of a visual benefit.
