Lower the subscription cost to play this game, this could potentially bring back thousands of players. Let’s be real, this game is not worth the current subscription cost or the amount of gold required for a token anymore. We lack true experiences in game and customer support.
600k subs at 12 dollars= 7.2 million monthly
800k subs at 10 dollars= 8 million monthly.
Money can still be made
You two completely missed OPs point, just so you could get a snarky remark in that we have all seen a thousand times already.
The issue isn’t that it’s too expensive, its that it’s bad value for money and could be a win-win for both parties.
Anyways, OP.
I don’t think 20% of players would return just because the WoW sub is 20-25% cheaper. I think you’d have to slash costs by half to see a decent return.
But WoWs biggest issue is retention of players. If people are bored of WoW it doesn’t matter if its $100 or $5, they don’t want to pay for a product they don’t use.
I think the game would be healthier with a lower sub cost (but still having one). But Blizz probably wouldn’t rake in as much per month, and thats all Blizz cares about.
To most people. One major content patch per year doesn’t justify $180 per years worth of subs. Slight over exaggeration, only slight. But still doesn’t justify it.
Honestly OP , cutting sub cost would have no discernible effect on subs. The cost for one month is already so low that worrking one hour at Target or Walmart pays for it. Given the neglible cost those who want to sub already are and lowering the price will not bring back those who left. Cost did not drive them away, not enjoying the game did. I don’t know about you, but if i am not enjoying a game, i won’t play it even if it is free.
Just adjusting for inflation since 2004, the game should be costing $20/month. They should raise the price. If that causes some people to unsub who only pay a monthly fee to troll the forums, and don’t even play the game, then that would be a bonus.
Imagine crying about $15 a month and trying to get $3-$5 discount. If you need that much of a discount or hurting from $15 a month then you need to rethink your priorities.
lol there are f2p games I won’t play because they simply don’t interest me. It’s not about cost, it’s interest in the game. I’m pretty sure wow isn’t exempt from this concept.
The sub cost isn’t the problem, it’s the game itself. FFXIV sub cost the same and still players want to play their game. The sub cost lowering isn’t going to bring them back.
Price is not a selling point of WOW. If WOW put out decent amount of content and actually worked hard to make their playerbase happy, I am pretty sure most people wouldn’t even mind paying more.
But playing this game keeps me out of cheap bars where I am often approached by large white rabbits named Harvey. The last time I had a few drinks with him I ended up in Akron for two weeks.
