Low Rated Noobs = Do Not Recommend Casters

Every new player/friend I play with or any group I play with, overwhelmingly agree that playing a caster is not the way you want to start out playing PvP. Or that it’s very difficult (speaking from a low rated perspective.)
As someone who loves casters, how can this be different? Can blizzard do something about this? What needs to be done? Prune mobility? Make caster CC instant like poly/clone/fear/sleep but slap a CD on them (spriest has all insta CC now that I think about it) and no longer have precog exist? What’s the solution? As low rated players precog isn’t necessarily a solution. It can be very hard to proc it.
Is there a solution that works out for both us low rated folk and the higher rated ones?
Kinda tired of not being able to main my favorite specs because it’s just not fun getting zugged down by DK/Warr.

Sometimes I think these threads are automatically troll because all the highest rated lobbies are casters.

There’s a bit of a point here though, bad mages/locks/boomies tend to just get lit up because they don’t know how to kite, land cc, or use their defensives.

But I don’t think learning these things is insurmountable, and warriors can have basically the same problem (the classic heroic leap across the map in the opener->charge behind a pillar->ded->“Heals???”)

Too real and too close to home for me.

It’s me. I’m the bad boomy.
Also @swole I’m specifically referring to low rated players like myself.

I’d recommend watching supatease on twitch, he’s really good at switching gears between offensive->defensive->back to offense, and just generally plays solid without doing anything too crazy or over extending (ie, super replicatable)

Boomies are really strong right now, but also probably the squishiest caster with the fewest defensives

Well yes but OP is talking about new and low rated players

Good caster beats good melee
Bad melee beats bad caster

Melee has always been easier to play than casters with the exception being rouge.

Cut melee mobility

Reduce the amount of stops everyone seems to have (including casters)

Imo it’s melee being unpeelable outside hard cc, and the overwhelming amount of stops they have.

If you’re trying to cast on a melee, they all have multiple stops and interrupts they can cycle to prevent casters from gaining ground.

While casters have cc too, a lot of it has a cast time and/or breaks on damage.

Another difference is that although casters can use stops too, melee do not suffer from lost time due to stops that break instantly.

What I mean is if you’re casting a spell that’s got a 2 second cast time, and a melee uses a stop on it at 1.5 seconds, even if that cc instantly breaks, they have still bought themselves 3.5 seconds before you will do anything because you must restart the cast all over again. Essentially, cc and stops that aren’t direct interrupts have much more impact on a caster than a melee.

If a caster uses a cc/stop on a melee, and that cc instantly breaks, they have bought themselves no time because melee damage doesn’t have a cast time. The melee will immediately start damaging you again, having lost nothing.

I think this is a huge reason casters aren’t as popular as melee. It’s not just that melee can use cc on you, it’s that the cc is so much more costly and disruptive to your damage than your cc will ever be to theirs.

On top of this, casters have an entire category of cc they have to worry about that melee do not. Interrupts.

Melee don’t get locked out of their abilities. They don’t go into a fight knowing every single enemy they’re facing can lock them out of their attacks. It’s not even a worry for most of them.

So casters deal with all the cc melee do, have a much higher cost to being hit by that cc, AND can be locked out of their abilities by every spec in the game (except healer priests).

It’s really a lot to deal with as a new player. Against good teams, you won’t be able to cast except for small windows you manage to set up. It’s very frustrating for new players because you feel like you’re being prevented from playing the game.

Melee you can just run in and smash buttons with much less to worry about. Melee really only worry about hard cc and disarms (which are rare)

Depends what you mean by caster cuz ele and demo are bm hunter easy

Edit forgot about dev being a 2 button spec as well

yeah ele is pretty easy you do have to manage totems but that’s about it, is BM really a caster though ? its more of a hybrid

He wasn’t saying bm is a caster just that those casters are as easy as bm

Yup I’m aware of it. Why dumb everything down tho, like where the variety be? If everyone is a dumb fury warrior then the game would be really boring.

Well I know and everyone isn’t a fury warrior if you want the free-st possible glad mount rn you play aff lock atm.

I’m Not sure what you’re arguing OP said people new to the game struggle to play caster

Never mind then :man_shrugging:

Have you ever played melee into a frost mage with fingers?

Can’t cut melee mobility unless you hit mages like Canada got hit with tariffs :skull:
