I’ve noticed during the last 2 weeks at least that the respawn rate of normal mobs in quest areas like Duskwood, Hillsbrad, Wetlands, etc have been much faster then before and seem to respawn in groups.
For example, i was just in hillsbrad on my lvl 30 hunter trying to train my mining, i find the Yeti cave has nice for iron/silver so i try to just clear thru the cave and mine as i find nodes. i have to kill 2 Yeti’s to get in the cave so i do and by the time i loot the 2nd yeti and target/pet attack the next Yeti inside the cave the 1st yeti from the outside that i killed less then 30sec ago has respawned and is aggroed on my back side, so now I get my pet to attack the yeti and tank them both so i can get to range and do some damage,as i turn to move i see the 2nd outside yeti respawn in the only place i have to move and it aggros…gg im dead. i tried to get into the cave 3 more times and everytime i would get aggro from yeti’s behind me i killed less then 1min ago. Before i could clear some mobs and if i pulled to many and died i would have a place to rez where i had killed thing recently enough to have a gap where i could heal, now when i get back to my corpse to rez every mob has respawned and i have to rez and run for my life under attack the whole time.
I do not recall this being a thing a launch, im sure everyone has had the experience of killing every quest mob (6-10 at a camp) in a area and then having to go to the other camp instead of waiting for respawns. I have not experienced that on any of my 3 alts in id say like 2 weeks…something has changed and for the worse it is now much harder to solo quest level.
I also have a lvl 35 mage alt and mostly just aoe grind rested xp, ive noticed the same thing while lvling her, i would aoe the worgens in duskwood outside of the cave, there is a camp of 6 of them together around a chest spawn, i would group with freeze them and aoe them down, then i would loot the corpses and the chest and then eat/drink for mana, before the recent spawn changes i would then have to get the other 4 pack around the cart and add 2 spaced ones from nearby and then aoe them down, then i would wait for a minute after looting and drinking before the 1st 6 pack would respawn. After the changes i now aoe down the 6 pack and loot them and before i can drink they start to respawn, ive had to get up mid drink to run from spawns i just got looted after aoe’ing them. This leads to lots of deaths from aggroing spawns while im drinking on their corpses…doesnt make sense.
Whatever changed with the spawning is not what it was at launch, is not true to what it was in vanilla, and makes it harder to solo quest/train. It is discouraging to new players and makes me not want to train my alts when its such a worse experience then i had just a month or 2 ago lvling in the same game. Id much rather wait for a respawn then have to speed run open world camps of 6 within 20sec before they repop. also this benefits mutliboxers like everything does of course.
I have 0 post because i dont come to forums and complain about things. I dont want blizzard just changing mob spawns every few weeks based on population, was mob spawning broken before? I lvled to 60 from launch and found it worked perfectly fine how the spawns worked even with lots of people online. Mob spawning is a core mechanic of the game so its very frustrating for them to change it after what its been like 2 months now? Will they change how spawns work every few weeks just to see how it feels…the players need to have a understanding of how core mechanics like aggro, spawns, los work or its just going to be chaos every time i log in.
or you have zero because you do all your complaining on other characters.
which is more likely… with that wall of text you posted.
The world may never know…
I think spawn rates are probably a bit more dynamic than Blizzard just changing a value every few weeks depending on who moaned the loudest on the forums.
It could be the more players in the zone, the whole zones respawn timer is lowered. Sometimes I play at 3-4 am and the respawn rate is similar to what I remember. Playing at prime time, you better move because no where is safe. Some of the low level caves can be brutal if you are the only one in there at 7pm.
I still have nightmares from the cave in westfall. The mobs would respawn within 15 seconds of killing them. It was nuts.
Meanwhile, the other 90% of the population is struggling to complete quests because of piss poor drop rates, having to compete in a saturated questing area, and slow respawns.
Before I address your ignorant reply to “Bearcatrekinlet’s” post here. Let’s first make sure we are using the same definition of “wall of text”.
wall-of-text
Noun
plural walls of text
chiefly Internet slang A large and intimidating piece of writing, particularly one with few or no paragraph breaks.
reference: your dictionary com
First off, Is his post large and if so is it the only thing large of his? Second, does his post intimidate you or is the other large thing of his? Does he fail to use paragraphs? Being I see at least four! I think not. It’s apparent you failed to realize that this not a wall of text. Rather you are either an unlettered troll or an ignorant person attempting to argue a point without being substantive.
Before I continue to ream your butt. I’d like to give you a chance to either post your rebuttal or tuck-tail-and run.
PS
The exasperation I feel for not being able to say " s s a " ((Be Creative)) in the idiom that I used is overwhelming! Thank you blizzard! ((lower case b is intentional; unworthy of a capital B)) for making sure this forum is a safe space for this new generation of back-boneless cowardice mice.
“Are you a man or a mouse?”
I’d actually like an answer to the above question in quotations.
No one knows how the dynamic respawn works. Its probably “mini zone” wide. So the entirety of duskwood isn’t linked, but “raven hill” or whatever, will have faster spawns the more people that are there. I just leveled an alt through duskwood. Late at night the respawns were slow in raven hill, at 7 PM they were probably 10-30 second respawns because there was probably 10-12 players in that area questing.
I remember the first time I died in Classic was in Westfall, because the same gnoll respawned literally four times in a row immediately upon its death. I couldn’t even loot its predecessor’s corpses in time, it just kept getting back up like a giggling, hairy T1000.
Think there was something that they put in so that the faster the mobs are killed the faster they respawn… if you are in the caves that I remember… people are in there non stop killing for skins… that could be the issue.
I was dragging my baby mage through the Wetlands the other day. The camps of gnolls aggro all at once and respawn almost instantly. Pretty amusing at lvl 60, not so much at lvl 22.
