I see it constantly especially in the 10 - 19 battle ground bracket where we have a bunch of new players to the game that are trying it out and que into a battle ground for some fun times.
what ends up happening i’d say about 50% of the time is some overgeared player exploiting the system one shotting most of them and they have no idea why they die so quick or how it’s even allowed. it’s supposed to be a reputable gaming company but it appears to be catering to bullies.
so they leave. after they have died instantly a bunch of times we start losing players. more will join, more will leave and meanwhile some person that figured out how to be extremely overpowered is still just firing away at them.
this is not engaging gameplay whatsoever especially for new players or even long term players that want to test out a new race or spec. it’s been going on far too long and needs to be addressed.
I am willing to bet that a good percentage of people unsub due to this and miss out on a potentially great experience due to this one really unfair and not kind game design.
be a little better than a new player if you gear up sure. but what’s going on right now is borderline straight up mean.
While I totally agree with you, twinks have always been a thing.
Instead of leaving at the time, I just tried to figure out how they were that OP, whether I could be just as OP or how to recognize and avoid such players.
If they are quitting over this then and there, the game is not for them, that’s all.
We don’t really need to keep cowards/low attention span/low determination players in WoW, even more so in PvP.
It’s also the same thing that happens when a fresh lvl 70 tries to get into a BG, they get wrecked.
We all know the simple fix for this: iLvL brackets, too bad Blizzard never bothered implementing them.
Good, Blizzard won’t actually try to save wow until it hits rock bottom.
Warlords brought us Legion, but then they got lazy again and made BFA/SL/DF.
I doubt the next expansion will be any good, they added the TP which is absolutely a slap in the face with tons of downtime and people are sucking it up like it is something new and original.
Twinks have always been a thing doesn’t max level PVP equalize gear levels?(sorry I don’t PVP much much less random BG’s). I guess my question is aside from making it a 1-1 gear level scale what would you recommend to ‘fix’ the issue?
There it is. Twinks have been a thing since WoW started. Was it as “bad” in earlier days of WoW? No, but the level 19 twink in Vanilla/TBC/Wrath is still never losing to johnny casual with white items.
Cata was where it started getting more “obvious” with low level Arcane Mages and Disc Priests one tapping people with Arcane Barrage/Penance respectively.
All the way back in mid-2005, when I was a wee level 30-something mage, I mentioned the idea of trying WSG to a friend, and they responded “It’s not like anything else in the game. It’s intense, and you’re going to die a lot.”
While that spooked me, it left me intrigued, and pre-arena BGs have remained one of my favorite parts of WoW.
If they can’t take going in green and getting hammered in a game they have little experience with, they likely don’t have the stomach for this game.
I think just disallowing party-sync people from queuing for low level BGs would do the trick.
PvP should be entirely gear locked, and set upon entering. WoWs biggest ongoing error with PvP is variable gear. Rewards for PvP should be things like mounts, titles, transmogs, giving players that are already better at the game better gear, is idiotic design.
Gear has always mattered way too much in WoW pvp, and it’s even worse now with the horribly implemented party sync. I level all my characters via BG, and it’s the worst it has ever been in terms of disparity of power.
It’s not a coincidence, that the most successful PvP games have uniform gear.
PvP in WoW should be like FFXIV already, a concise set of 5-10 skills that translate well how every class should play with everyone playing in the same leveled ground
PvP more so than PvE should be as balanced as possible because metas are way more relevant and so is unfairness, what keeps me from making new characters exclusively for PvP is the thought of farming honor until i have a full set it is boring and never fun specially with melee classes
i agree, party sync into lower brackets is scum, but low level brackets are always plagued by other nonsense when it’s not party sync
either mages or hunters one shotting, artifact weapon glitch with relics way too high ilvl for the bracket, enchants/gems miscaled, xp off exploit into xp on, etc
Oh wow didn’t realize that was a thing, yeah I could see that being atrocious someone walks in with the AOE trinket from Nazjatar and just steamrolls the apposing team.
This isn’t happening because of twinking. It’s happening because scaling has become so out of wack at low levels that players get
Globaled every time they try to engage. Even with the twinks, it’s just a matter of who hits first and often times people global each other at the same time. After so many stat ans level squishes, the scaling at low levels makes pvp insufferable and unfun. Even a lot of people who would like to do twinking don’t enjoy it because getting globaled constantly is not good gameplay.
Tbf I don’t know a single MMO that does pvp well, at least compared to other game genres.
This is likely due to the nature of mmos, were every character is supposed to unique with varying abilities, gear, and what not.
This, however, does not translate well when you’re trying to balance the playing field, especially when it comes to newer players.
Sure, every game has players with varying skill differences and amounts of experience, but mmos have the extra bit with the gear, which can drastically change success rates and even play styles.
Point is, mmos will likely never have a pvp scene comparable to other genres and that’s just fine. My main question is why they decided to make an eSports equivalent to it.
Cata launch (aka before a single squish) had Disc Priests not even in real twink gear globalling people in the 11-19 bracket with Penance. This is something Blizzard simply doesn’t care about because it impacts so few people and doing something about it is more effort than it is worth since you would have to constantly go back to it to maintain a status quo.
They can’t even get max level PvP right after all these years and people want them to try at low level PvP?
