Low FPS in the raid (after several attempts to fix it)

Hi everyone, this is yet another Low FPS in raids thread. First of all, thanks to anyone taking their time to read this and trying to help. I am aware this is a common topic nowadays and I did search a lot through the forums before I decided to post this. I just was unable to fix it after trying everything I saw ppl were doing.

Anyway, my game runs smoothly in dungeons, outdoors, delves and even Legacy/Classic raids. During TWW raids though, especially in Undermine, my fps tanks from 120 down to 35 as soon as the boss is pulled. Dornogal is another place where my fps seem to take a major hit and go down to about 40 many times but I could understand that with the amount of ppl and tbh I am not particularly concerned about performance while afk in a city.

Below are my system specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 8-Core Processor
RAM: 48.0 GB DDR4
drive: SSD drive Kingston SA400S37/960G (both windows and wow are installed here, and everything else, it is the only drive)
gpu: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti
3440 x 1440, 120 hz monitor, Gigabyte GS34WQC 34-inch

CPU, GPU and memory stay below 25-30% usage all the time (the GPU is usually below 15%, even).

These are all the changes I tried so far:

  • Set my details update interval to 2s
  • Made sure every weakaura (I only have 4) had no models
  • Clean UI reinstall, including data, wtf, cache folders
  • Play with no addons at all (after the ui reinstall even)
  • Play with everything set to low (this includes disabling anything that could impact framerates)
  • Tried setting renderscale to below 100 and also to just 100 (due to the bug)
  • V-sync off and V-sync on
  • G-sync off and G-sync on
  • Disabled Triple buffering
  • Task manager > details > wow.exe > disabled the affinity of half of the cores (8/16)
  • All the drivers are updated
  • Clean reinstall

I am sure I am forgetting of some of the things I read online and tried to no avail. Anyway, I believe there are people with a system similar to mine that are running the game smoothly (or better at the very least), so I understand that this must be something I need to fix but I am completely lost. If anyone can help me out, I will very much appreciate it, I love playing this game and raiding above all and 20-30 fps while mythic raiding is taking much of the fun away.

Please and thank you <3

Are you running the latest Nvidia drivers ? They seem to have issues with wow

I have a system that is not exactly the same but is close enough that I think my experience in relevant. I have a 5800x CPU and 3060 GPU and my performance is similar especially in raid sizes > than 20 people. In Dornogal I get 55-65 fps but in large raid it will drop to anywhere between 20-40 fps. I am also aiming for 120 fps at 1080p which is rarely reached consistently unless I am out in open world or not in combat inside a dungeon which is very disappointing.

Maybe someone else does have a fix that actually works but I have spent countless hours trying different fixes only to make things worse or with no benefit. I don’t know if you tend to obsess about graphics but I used to almost to the point of driving myself crazy for weeks on end where i would be trying to get rid of the most minute visual artifacts that the average person wouldn’t notice but I had trained myself to.

The best thing I found for myself was to get the graphics as optimized as I could and then accept that the game would just be like that. Over time I found that I didn’t notice the micro-stuttering as much and I was actually playing the game and having more than I would have had troubleshooting. If this isn’t relevant to you feel free to throw my opinion in the bin.

Since you like myself have an AM4 CPU and WOW is CPU bound, if you could afford it and they are available where you live, you could look at upgrading to either a 5700x3D or 5800x3D. Even better would be to upgrade to AM5 by getting a new motherboard and one of the newer x3D CPUs. I have looked into the upgrade and with those AM4 CPUs being a little older they are very expensive and not widely available but your experience may be different.

Sorry if this last thing is little inane and/or obvious, but in the past I have had my system on the wrong power plan where the available CPU power is limited so you could check the maximum power state set in your power plan and make sure your CPU can go to 100%. That will definitely make your game feel borderline unplayable if this is set at 50%. Also I have noticed a minor performance improvement by disabling Simultaneous Multithreading in Ryzen Master, although this seems to vary from person to person.

Hope you get things sorted because it sucks to have a system that you spent lots of money on but you’re not getting the experience you were hoping for. I regret not doing more research when I built because I probably could have got a 5800x3D for slightly more money and I’d be having a way better time but instead I’m kinda stuck for the time being until I have a spare $1000 sitting around to do a rebuild.

Yes, I am. Do you know by chance the last version that was not having issues?

About disabling Simultaneous Multithreading, I will try that out. Thank you.

I am having the same issue. Low fps in raid once combat starts. Also tested in LFR with addons all off to rule out. FPS dips to 20 upon combat start. Very jumpy. Sometimes even dips to 12 then goes back up to about 20. Lowering settings changes nothing. There’s something quite wrong and I hope they figure it out soon.

I have had this same issue now for quite some time. I have a 9900k with a 2070 and 32g of ram. I have tried no add-ons, set all setting to low, and every other tip given. I have also used the resource monitor to show that all cores are even at about 75% utilization with very little spikes. out in the open would I get about 120-130 fps, in major hubs I get about 60-75 fps. In raid I get at best 24fps and as low as 13fps when the fight starts, out of the fights I am back to just over 100 fps. the only setting I leave at the highest are the ones to show what to avoid, spell effects are set to only necessary, but it looks like I am still able to see all the other peoples effects anyways. I am wondering if this has something o do with it
