Low FPS in Populated Areas vs High FPS in Low Populated Areas

Hey everyone,

I’ve been experiencing a noticeable difference in frames per second depending on the population of the area I’m in. In highly populated areas, such as cities or raids with many players, I’m getting around 60-80 FPS, but when I’m in low-populated zones or less demanding areas, my FPS skyrockets to around 300.

This got me wondering: why does my FPS drop so much in populated areas, and what computer components could help reduce this FPS dip?

Even if I lower graphic settings from ultra to lowest it has very little effect. The only thing that helped a little was downscaling from 1440p to 1080p that got my low’s from 50-60 to 70-80fps.

My computer:
Graphics: RTX 3070 (8gb ddr6)
CPU: I7-10700k @3.8ghz (boots to 4.7ghz)
Ram: 32gb of ddr 4 3200mhz
Monitor: 1440p 165hz
Windows 11

Thanks,
Reso

It just how WoW is built on its old engine… I have a 4090 and 14900k build comp and I still hit 80-90/100’s depending on the amount of people/time of day in the city.

Nothing you can do : / until blizz rebuilds WoW

Thanks.

That’s a little sad as someone who aspires to upgrade my computer and see performance gains being that wow is my favorite game and basicly doesn’t benefit from upgrades.

Yeah, at least I can say when I built this comp 4-5 months ago everything looks good in 4k… so there is some positive stuff to it lol. It’s discouraging seeing the fps in city’s even though the game is playable, but oh well.
