I started taking with my dh and I’m having a blast, but something seems off. I do around 7-8k dps on her, which is ridiculous if you ask me. I started playing her as Havoc so most of my gear is dps oriented too. So what am I missing here? Not enough versatility, maybe?
Fracture and Spirit Bomb for one thing.
But, Vengeance is one of the lowest DPS tanks(if not the lowest, haven’t kept up with it). We can do decent on AoE due to Flame Crash and Spirit Bomb. But single target, yea, we are trash, lol.
Fallout is much better too since it generates a ton of souls during AoE, works well with Spirit Bomb. Feast of Souls is severely undertuned so its negligible.
Changing your Stalwart enchant as well would help. The Versatility is much better, Though you could also opt for Force Multiplier. (As far as damage goes).

Sad thing is, i was tanking a run on my vengeance dh the other day and one of the dps was also a demon hunter.
It took us waaaay too long to take out the first boss, and the other dh popped meta and i noticed he didnt have wings. He was trying to play dps in vengeance spec -_-

I changed my talents and maybe gained 1k dps from it. There’s still a way to go.
And Icy Veins says Vengeance has outstanding dps. That’s a lie.

Copy my stats if you want, i deal fron 14k up to 22kdps so single target, aoe damage is crazy, like sometimes in my m+ runs o am above a dps pr two!
If you really want to do dps, swap the Anima for Crucible.
IIRC, it has one of the highest base DPS for single and AOE as a tank, but it depends on the talents you’re running and when you use it.
5 soul spirit bomb, fracture, and either anima for AOE or crucible for single.
Paladin has higher ST and AOE burst though.

Without bomb, fracture, flame crash veng dps isn’t very good. You have to get used to timing flame crash sigils and 4-5 soul bombs, and the whole spec tends to feel starved without fracture & enough haste.

I run about 20k-ish dps on boss fights, when I run Crucible of Flame (which I generally use for Tyrannical weeks like this). We might not be the premier dps tank, especially for single target, but we are definitely capable of good dps with the right setup.
Remember though and this is very important: Dont sacrifice survival for dps. Do Not Do It.
But as many people said, if you want more dps - essences: Crucible of Flame as Major. Vision of Perfection, Strife and maybe Anima as minors

Yeah Anima isnt good as minor hence the maybe as all I use are Null, Undying Gift, Aegis
Depends on what you are doing though, raids or M+, but general if you dont outgear content, you want to mix dps and survival. And if you outgear content then by all means Flame, and Null are your biggest and best, anything after that is pending what you looking for, icy-veins explains in great detail.
Strife is a strong minor, IMO. I run Anima major, Strife & Null minors.
I consider switching to Gift major on Tyrannical.
Bear druid’s dps is a septic fire though.
I can’t think of many tanks that can pull off blood dk levels of damage sufficiently.
At the very least Vengeance just won’t die in most open world content.
