You’re quite welcome.
Anytime someone invokes “the spirit of the game” you know that what comes next is going to be complete nonsense.
It’s the worst form of appeal to authority.

Cry face emojis and lame statements aren’t arguments at all.
HC servers have a specific ruleset. Blizzardly clearly stated it wasn’t like other rulesets and the same rules didn’t apply, especially when it comes to PvP.
Not a single one of you can come up with a meaningful justification for why a guard in the middle of nowhere needs to PvP flag you other than “we’re status quo purists and don’t think anything should ever be changed.”
I’m not the one that needs a better argument as mine actually have logic to them and make sense.
They shouldn’t, unless you attack them.
PvP is not the focus of the Hardcore game mode
Various quests and objectives that cause players to become PvP flagged, such as the quest, “The Attack” and, “The Missing Diplomat,” no longer cause players to become flagged for PvP.
These quests were never strictly “meant” to flag you for PvP, but this was a result of how the creatures were set up at the time and was likely the result of an early technical limitation.
Hmm interesting, it’s like they don’t think you should be unexpectedly PvP flagged when out questing.
We no longer have this limitation, and to prevent unintended consequences or “gotchas” after accepting an innocuous-looking quest, we’ve decided to no longer cause these quests to flag you for PvP combat.
Hmm, it’s almost like Swamp guards were an oversight and are in the “gotcha” category.
being able to drag or “kite” high-level monsters to lower-level areas is a large vector for gameplay disruption and something that doesn’t have a place in WoW Classic Hardcore
Hey look, more examples of how HC was changed because the ruleset is different and they don’t want you to be able to grief other players.
Gameplay that involves Zone Disruption and malicious player killing outside of consensual PvP will not be tolerated on Hardcore realms.
I’m sure they consider ganking unexpecting players in swamp consensual PvP though right? That was sarcasm because of how obvious this all is and how wrong those arguing it’s not are.
They shouldn’t chase you down either if you’re not allowed to attack back, but they currently flag you regardless (or maybe thorns damage does, but it’s currently stupid as it is).
They absolutely should.
And you are absolutely allowed to attack them.
A player being randomly attacked by a mob in the middle of a swamp isn’t engaging in PvP activity and shouldn’t be flagged.
So, make it so you’re not flagged if you don’t attack them.
Easy peasy.
I expect they will change them despite how some people in this thread feel about the situation.
Five bucks say they bork it even harder with their fix.
When I see an elite I use raid markers so I can pay attention. Those are handy.
Yes they are handy, and yes this is a good workaround. But players should still not have to invent workaround for bugs. Bugs should be fixed!
Exactly. Especially when that this behavior from the NPCs was changed on live years ago specifically to stop this situation from continuing to happen. No clue why Blizz forgot to re-fix this on HC.
Anyone using that argument as a reason not to fix this problem doesn’t even have the stump of an amputated leg to stand on.
…. Swim down the coast to Tanaris, tag the Gadgetzan FP and ride up into 1K. After, just fly to Ratchet.
No guard. One time. Ez.

Best part is you can grab the cooking recipes as you come ashore.
Or just take the lift. The guard between them is now neutral. Stay to the left and there’s no issue.
TBH the lift itself is more intimidating than the guards.
blizzard made you people too comfortable with their anti-grief fixes just because they wanted to make sure you wouldn’t right click some troll by mistake and get killed by guards in booty bay doesn’t mean you will literally never get flagged. if you are anywhere even close to an enemy faction settlement, you should assume you are going to get flagged somehow. I climb the northern mountainside of ashenvale to a ridiculous extent just to make sure I’m nowhere near splintertree post. this is the mentality you need to have.
Not really, when it is not like this in Era. Blizz made loads of bugs when implementing the Anti PvP-measures.
We’ll just have to keep on reporting and hope they fix those dang-blasted bugs!
