Love the world/community, but hate the lack of challenge?

This isn’t a slam post. If you enjoy the game as is and want absolutely nothing to change, I’m happy for you. I mean that sincerely.

I’m just curious though. Does anybody feel the same way as myself? I enjoy the world, RPG elements and lack of world quest type crap and RNG heavy gearing. The community, while still toxic AF, is still “tighter” than retail by default of more things needing multiple people to cooperate to accomplish.

But man it feels like playing baby’s first MMO at times (which in a lot of ways, it is/was). I understand that the combination of a) Outdated Mechanics, b) Private Server Theory crafting, c) 1.12 Itemization/Talents and d) 2020 Metagaming Culture were naturally going to neuter a lot of the challenge, and that’s fine. Its an older version of the game, I didn’t expect nor want Mythic raiding.

But I never expected it to be THIS easy. Current raid content is almost LFR in its difficulty. It feels more like my guild bands together each week not to conquer bosses and get loot, but to simply spin the wheel on each boss hoping for BiS gear that means almost nothing because there is not a lick of content that requires said gear. The whole endgame feels like a giant participation trophy party.

I would KILL for some kind of hard modes, though I fully understand that it won’t happen and probably shouldn’t. I know it would divide the community and be far to risky on blizzards end.

Classic for me is closer to an appetizer for TBC which won’t be uber challenging, but was undoubtable tuned to be far more challenging and lacks the absurd amounts of private server player experience. It will likely provide far more challenge, though nothing compared to how it was upon release, which is fine. So I can make my piece with it knowing that TBC is coming.

Again this is more of a vent/discussion post. I just want to see if others feel the same way as myself. I want to get hyped when some great piece of gear drops like a lot of my buddies do, but I just don’t understand it. It took almost zero effort, not to mention there is not content where its going to make a serious difference.

Also inb4 people read the title, ignore the post and get uber defensive.

BWL is harder than LFR tier but I understand your point. The good news is AQ and Naxx are harder. Both for itemization/talent reasons and mechanics.
The reality is an MMO isn’t really the correct genre for bleeding edge tightly tuned content.

Remove pieces of gear until you achieve the desired level of difficulty.

Personally, I raid naked.

Ya, I might drive blindfolded today. Was thinking cutting my arm off before work as well. Ye know, added challenge.

Why not make this in any of the other dozen vent/discussion posts then?

It’s a 15 year old game that was intended to be easy mode vs what else was available at the time.

Anyone expecting anything that was challenging for a skilled raid team from MC or BWL was grossly misinformed. AQ40 and Naxx will provide a bit more from that, but don’t expect it to be that hard.

It’s amplified by using late game talents, but that doesn’t really mean AQ40 and Naxx are gonna be a huge problem. I expect they will be cleared day one on pretty much every server just like BWL.

It’s a nostalgia trip. You want hard, try Mythic Nyalotha.

Which is why the so-called ‘meme’ specs should ALL THE RAGE right now. You can still min/max to your hearts content but raids will be more challenging.

An interesting use of the game that already exists, but folks are still making negative comments about them.

Mythic Nyalotha would also be cleared in a single day if people have had 15 years worth of practice prior.

Havent seen end game really, just enjoying the leveling process which is by far more challenging than retail.

I cannot lie this response is gold.

I disagree. The difficulty scaling back then was all about “This needs to be hard so it’ll hit hard” which makes it easy to wipe if people aren’t paying attention and/or doing min/max culture with buffs.

It’s LFR difficult in terms of mechanic depth sure, I won’t argue with you there. But the difficultly is there in its own sense, just not because you have 20 things to watch like retail.

Remove all hit/spell hit gear and enjoy. There, now you too can bask in the frustration of missing attacks and watching your dps bottom out.

Can’t +1 this enough. Leveling in current game is so boring!

MC was probably not much harder than LFR when we first entered in blues. It’s an absolute joke now because everyone greatly outgears it. Same will be true of ZG.

BWL is a step up, and has provided a nice moderate challenge for many guilds. On my server, only about half the guilds that cleared MC have been able to clear BWL.

AQ and Naxx will be cleared week one by the top guilds, but the majority will take some time progressing through there. Many guilds won’t be able to finish them. But many, many people will get to legitimately experience those raids for the first time, because they weren’t in a leet enough guild the first time around, but now it’s accessible to the average casual raiding guild to give it a go and down some bosses, maybe even clear it eventually. I think it will be a lot of fun.
