Love the idea of classic but no changes feel stupid

Back in 2006 I was introduced to the game. It was like wow a mmo that really did not suck. it took me like 3 months to save enough money to buy a computer that could play it. I launched myself into the world and never fully looked back. This was about 4 or so month before bc launched. Over the years I had to leave the game from time to time (mostly due to money starting a family etc.) but I never forgot about wow. it helped me in my dark time and my good times. I still play with my 16-year-old daughter and my 9-year-old son.

Now when they said they were bringing back classic I was overjoyed. and it lived up to the hype… my childhood was back. Everything was back. I launched into classic with the community overjoyed to be back in what I knew and loved. I loved being killed by hogger and launching into Westfall. I had just got to level 16 when word came down that a guild had killed rag… just 6 days after launch. This left a sour taste in my mouth. back in 2005 it took 154 days to clear it. I soon left classic heading back to modern and did not pick it up again until season.

Now this time ox and mc won’t be launching tell 20 day later. this is a good start in my mind. It gives people some time to level up get a little bit of gear before launching into the raid. But if it only takes 2 hours to clear mc again then all your prep would be for nothing, it will only take a little work to make it hard again. Up the damage slightly on bosses’ ability. even adding one or 2 new thing that the boss can do will make the fight so much better.
You are Willing to make life changes to the game … with the Chronoboon Displacer even the lfg tool… but do the right thing and give us the game we want and need back. Make your new classic era servers a TRUE Successor to the Original wow.

after the failure of SoD, they are in no rush to do “changes” again. it’s no changes for now :expressionless:

we should start saying “classic lite.” or something. Classic +/-, Classic .5+ xD

for minor changes.

Yeah. We already have SoD to have rants on broken paladins or shamans.

A return to world of warriors in era wow would be refreshing. and conveniently balanced. Each faction has warrior, hence balance

  • No buff/debuff limit (no-brainer)
  • No world buffs allowed in instanced raids (somewhat controversial, but it’s the only way to achieve class balance in raids)
  • Honor and battlegrounds available from day 1 (but capped at rank 7 until BWL)

How I would do it. Some other minor things (like Druids using polearms) could also fit, but they barely make a difference. Not gamebreaking either way.

The failure of SoD was due to their own error and again not listening to actual Classic + suggestions :expressionless:

Right but Classic + proponents never asked for such drastic changes to take place that break the spirit of Classic. Classic + players also love Classic/Vanilla content but the vast majority don’t have the wild ideas of massive changes like what they did to SoD.

I linked another of my posts explaining it better on a more relevant thread if you’re interested. Basically Classic + is not at all what people asked for.

SOD has failed?

Gosh… there I thought I was having fun with friends every week in it… I’m sad to learn that.

Did you read? We’re not getting no changes … He says No Changes, then proceed to tell us about which changes are kept, and which new changes will be implemented.

And these are not at all the kind of changes, you talk off … I know, but the title lead me to think this.

as an afterthought … I fail to see how others’ killing of bosses very fast lessens the excitement for you. Let the speerunners speed ahead and play in your own good time like you did the first time around.

Season of Mastery was a failure.

People aren’t playing Classic again for a challenge.

People are playing Classic again because it’s fun.

For being in WOODDEPARTMENT, you constantly have bad takes.

  • It’s already been established that warriors outperform other classes by a mile EVEN WITHOUT world buffs. The gap is slightly closer but melee stacking would still be the meta. If you want to fix this problem, removed [Flurry] from the game or adjust the rage formula to not scale by damage done.
  • We have already tried no world buffs in SOM and it failed horribly for a variety of reasons. One of the many reasons was that without world buffs, the world feels infinitely more dead. There’s less guild drama, there’s less world pvp, there’s less reason to make summoners, there’s never any risk leaving your home city, there’s less parse culture, there’s less reason to go out and farm gold, etc. It has wide-reaching consequences that are not always apparent.
  • Honor caps are the laziest way of band-aid fixing the issue. Here’s how ranking should work: You and I should never ever be able to hit rank 14, because we’re plebians. Monkeynews and the rest of <Apes> should be able to hit rank 14, because they’re good at the game and deserve it. It’s the same reason why neither you or I deserve a Roll’s Royce in real life. You should be able to see a high warlord and turn you head being like “Oh wow, that’s one of the 3 high warlords this week, damn.”

You already have a game version you are asking for, its called season of discovery.

I think what everyone wants is kind of like mods of diablo 2 that don’t really add much but try to keep the original philosophy of the devs and game without going too crazy,
sod imo added too much in order to sell itself to people and I dont think the gated time brackets actually match the feeling of a fresh level 60 server downsides of pvp realms included
the problem is the devs of 2000 are not here to continue vanilla wow and the new devs are actually quite good but I believe they dont want to invest time into small changes like mana issues or meme specs because no one will notice in the grand scheme and as well all legacy information would no longer be accurate depending on how much is changed to the people getting into the game for the first time it would be confusing I guess

failure? SoD is in a good state right now. Phase 3 ruined it for a lot of folks and the devs know that. I’m excited for the next season, I was just hoping it was coming sooner than expected.

denial :expressionless: it’s not just a river in egypt

huh? LOL - I have no idea what you mean.

SoM is the only time I have ever seen “LFM Ranged DPS for Naxx”

Being ranged is a big advantage when you actually have to do the mechanics because you don’t have world buffs.

Highest theoretical damage is always Warrior thanks to their cooldowns, but the gap isn’t very big without world buffs. And other classes have distinct advantages (better threat management, ranged damage, better AoE damage, etc) that make them worthwhile when you’re not just deleting every mob in 30 seconds with overpowered damage.
