Love how DF was going to be the alt friendly expansion

Then they add this bloated, overcomplicated profession system that’s so punishingly slow and brutal to level it actively punishes you for playing more than one character. DF is only alt friendly if you pretend professions don’t exist, which is pretty much what I do anymore. Sad, because I always enjoyed professions before.

All professions need is a catchup system. Let players newly leveling professions to farm skill points from infinite sources at this point. Bam! Problem solved.

I tried the new professions at the start of DF and nope’d out of there real quick. It’s not fun at all to me. Oh well, here’s hoping they make it fun again.

To be fair I believe the Alt-friendliness was not meant in regards to professions. They said from the get-go the professions revamp is a work in progress and will be updated again in War Within. The Alt Friendly part of Dragonflight was leveling and gearing.

Yeah…not really alt friendly when the renown isn’t account wide thus you gotta grind it on alts and the profession system is so clunky with many professions demanding items from other trade skills. Then locking recipes behind renown makes it worse, some areas give barely any reputation for renown levels even with boosts (looking at you zaralek caverns)…yeah it could of been handled better

Heck, I almost think it couldn’t have been handled worse.

Hit renown 20 and your alts get renown so fast you’ll be up to 20 in no time. I know, I just did it on a hunter to get them the renown for dragonkin taming. Took me a few days or so to get to renown 20.

Personally, I’ve done more profession stuff now than I have since they turned me off of professions in Legion.

I love the system. It just needs some tweaks.

To be fair there are some things that we take for granted right now that could have been horrible. Like for example the dragonflying coins, they could have made us do that on every single character. I was going to say something about the renown but it’s something they’ve done better in the past.

I don’t like how the professions are right now not sure what else to say. They could have been great with a bit of tweaking but seems they didn’t care to make any improvements in df.

To the person above me who commented on the renown, if it really is that fast then you have to ask yourself why did they even bother? They could have given all of our alts maxed renown once a character finishes it. Hopefully it’s something that will be a thing in the next expansion.

Why did they do the exact same thing in Mists and the exact thing people have been asking for ever since?

:dracthyr_shrug:

Sidenote: there will be account wide rep next expansion. But be prepared for weekly renown caps.

I have at least one character of every class and they had all the professions. With this expansion I dropped them all and just took herbalism and mining on every character for the extra xp. They are way too much trouble to be fun for me.

for most people, “alt-friendly” usually only means “quick to levelcap, and easy to gear up for endgame”. so by that definition, DF is pretty alt-friendly. but if your definition is “fun to play through on multiple alts”, this expansion is probably the worst out of all of them.

I like the new profession system in theory, I feel as though the actual integration of it has somethings that could stand to be smoothed out, such as knowledge point catch up. Like, I don’t expect any catch up to match someone who has been getting min-maxing their knowledge points or expect it to be close at all, but a little boost in knowledge points would be nice.

I have way more max level alts now than I have at any time since I started playing in TBC. Professions isn’t very friendly in general, but that has no impact on me playing any my alts.

and then you have to carry a lot of alts do xmog from old dungeon, raid

you have to teleport in and out of every work need to collect

you do a lot of chores in that class, You have an important class to do for the quest if you don’t have that… make one!

takes 1000 years make good alts

I disagree. I think there are a number of different personal definitions for “alt-friendly”. Historically the people who do play alts have a few definitions, while those who don’t play alts have several that are different from those who do. I think it would be interesting to characterize what “alt-friendly” means to people who do and don’t play alts.

It does seem like Blizzard’s attitude toward alts has only changed a little. It’s like way back in Legion, when Ion started a thread asking players to explain to devs why and how they play alts, because they couldn’t figure it out for themselves. 1200 posts later, Ion had never come back to the thread.

They don’t approve of playing alts or understand why people do it. They don’t really want to know, but they do know they have to make at least some changes to keep those people playing. Whether the changes they make are adequate for that purpose, well. Let’s just say every expansion they announce that the next expansion will be totally alt friendly. Aaand… For people who like to play alts, what happens doesn’t feel like that.

I think the most common definition would be wanting to repeat content on different classes or specs, which would require having multiple characters available on those classes when you are in the mood. People who don’t play alts would often say, “That means you want to have multiple mains, and YOU SHOULDN’T WANT TO PLAY LIKE THAT!!! Blizzard should not support such degenerate playstyles!” I think too many people making decisions still feel that way.

so ive played multi alts from start of Expnasion and was able to get Black smithing x 2/ Mining x2, Leatherworking, Skinning x 2, and Enchnating maxed out. (on multi toons) as well as get many other professions… Good enough to use. to where i hardly dont make anyhting for my self…

BUT ive played these toons / did the profession stuff (aka quests / farmed the drops) Weekly since the start.

The issue isnt with having alts / making new alts. because you can gear them VERY fast!!!

the issue is the profession system itself making it where you need "1000 skill points. but only allowing you to get 10-15 points a week from Various quests / Random drops.

yes you could go ALL in and farm dragon shards of knowledge like a crazy person to max it in days… but WHO WANTS to do that?

as many stated the profession system needed a way for alts / new to DF players to catch up. and there simply was never a effective way added in Dragon flight. otherwise i Truly have enjoyed the system itself.

DF hasn’t felt alt-friendly to me at all. SL was always better for that.
You’ve dilligently earned too much currency in SL? Go buy some alt gear, in fact, target your alt’s gear; or hey, go give that currency directly to an alt. :man_shrugging:t5: Need renown cuz gear is ezpz?- boom, your alt is renown 40. Now it’s renown 80, etc… The currencies, systems and economy are literally designed worse and worse with every xpac and I find it hilarious how payers cope so hard on that because they have nothing better to do with their lives than play/defend WoW, a GaaS by a company more integrity based and righteous than thou, right? :joy: :joy:

The only thing that even comes close to pretending DF is alt-friendly is the newly added Flightstones>alt box of random loot that was added what, this week? Last week? And even then, that’s not targeted gear, and it requires io rating of 1000 to purchase? LMAO
Meanwhile everyone’s characters are capped on Flightstones whether they do m+ or not. AND you can only buy 5 rando boxes fully capped at 2000 Flightstones. :joy:
This xpac was a joke in every way.
inb4 Trading Post because pretty pixels don’t make a game good. All the grievances people air out on these forums before they’re shill blasted into a ban/suspension for caring about this game are what could make a game good.

They’re really not that bad for the most part. Some of them I don’t really like and gave up on but I was able to max out JC pretty well. I’d say JC got the best out of a profession rework.

I don’t see how they’re not alt friendly when they require very little investment to level, just an incentive to.

Ok. Most people didn’t. People complained they were useless for at least 12 years or more.

I think it was Shadowlands where they said they would be alt friendly. And they were. There was Threads of Fate to help level and you could have one 'toon in each covenant.

I don’t see where they are pushing alts in DF.

you disagree, but then you didn’t offer anything that contradicted what i said.

you have to be joking. they love players with lots of characters. more characters = more hours playing = more need for gold = more tokens and sub time. they put in a ton of dev work to accommodate them.

this is what i meant by “fun to play through on multiple alts.” and there’s no way this is the more common definition. everytime “alt-friendly” is discussed, overwhelmingly the responses have to do with ease of gearing up.
