Just noticed the Wowhead recommended builds on the talent calculator no longer suggest LotM. Is it now considered a bad talent to take? It was always an overall healing loss but now is being subtracted from hps in logs/parses.
Thoughts? Still good situationally?
As far as I can tell, the big problems is that in practice the punch of LotM provides to Holy Shock does not offset the heavy heal absorb you get, especially if in situations where you use Divine Toll and throw out multiple Holy Shocks in rapid succession.
In theory if you are able to survive all those absorbs, it will help you in content. But it won’t help you parse well, to my understanding. So it’s just extra work for no logs.
LotM is an effective healing loss. Now that warcraft logs started subtracting the healing absorb from your healing, we’ll see a lot less people picking it.
I think during beta this was a good talent pick. Not sure. But now? I don’t think many would choose it on purpose.
I actually ran this is raids and keys until last week. Not sure if the scaling is still incorrect (because it was a few weeks ago and they hotfixed it) but the absorb shield that can proc on you is insanely ridiculous right now and such a pain in the butt to manage that it is just not worth having.
PSA: Not sure what content you are doing but I was heroic raiding and doing 9+ Mythic dungeons and in every aspect of my content it was not worth taking anymore.
I don’t remember if it was nerfed (or if Holy Shock itself was nerfed) but I do remember in the beta with at least HotS being so strong, the heal absorb wasn’t a problem as we had a lot of passive healing to ourselves to go around.
But once those started being brought under control, the strength of LotM just wasn’t worth it, in my opinion.
I still run it in keys that require a ton of spot healing around level 10 so far.
Yeah this talent hurts more than helps.
Talent is just an overall 5% loss. On top of that, you sacrifice survivability and it no longers help you in parsing like it was stated above.
There’s other issues with LotM:
- Overhealing also creates absorbs
- Absorbs do not have cap, which means you can get a DT to drain half of your HP and kill yourself in a high burst AOE damage event.
- Even if those two points were fixed, Holy Shock has been nerfed by about 24% since Beta, meaning the talent its less also attractive the less powerful HS is.
- It’s just an overall healing loss for 2 points, if it was a 5%-10% overall healing buff, the story would be different, since it would be a high risk/ high reward ability.
