Because he infiltrated the Light. It would have been a piss poor job if he spilled the beans of why he was there.

I mean, the real reason was likely SL wasn’t on the table at that point of writing Lothraxion. Other examples of such being Uther’s spirit for the Ashbringer questline, etc. But the in-lore reason being he’s doing what dreadlords do. Lie.

Because the Light desired Z’rali’s freedom, Sire Denathrius was arrogant, and the Light knew it; the Lords of the Light want to have eyes in the Shadowlands, and although Z’rali is considered an abomination among her kind, she would still be useful in the coming war.
The Light had a vision in which we stormed Castle Nathria and defeated Denathrius’s forces, thus freeing Z’rali.
TLDR: Bad writing.
Because he did not have access to the inside of the butts of WoW’s writing team, which is where the entirety of Shadowlands was pulled from.

The whole thing with the nathrezim being from the shadowlands is actually one of my favourite additions to the lore. Though to be clear, I just mean the part about it being their place of origin. Not the absolute garbage that they were secretly serving the Jailer this whole time. That is stupid nonsense. But them being from the realm of death fits them perfectly. From when we first met them they always had as much an undead vibe as they did a demonic vibe. They were the masterminds of the undead scourge plot and “created” frostmourne (incidentally I also love the idea that they just stole frostmourne and the helm of domination but then simply told Sargeras that they had made them). When it came to shadowlands it should have simply been that they only recently returned there simply because the burning legion was defeated, and they had to find something to occupy their time.
Of course as the OP brought up, it does absolutely raise questions about Lothraxion. Even in my preferred version of things. Because yeah, Lothy. What’s the deal? Why didn’t you tell us about all this? I guess he could simply explain it as him feeling some kind of shame about it, or not wanting to make his loyalty seem dubious. I dunno. I still think he’s an extremely cool character. I hope they’re able to settle these questions about him in a satisfying way.

- I don’t think Denathrius and the Jailor were officially collaborating when Lothraxion was dispatched. He could genuinely just not know.
- Even if he did know, why would he tell us that he’s spying on us? That’s the dumbest possible move for a double agent.

I think some of us are looking at this from different angles. Some who think that he is and always has been a double agent infiltrator, but some (like myself) who think that his conversion to the light was genuine. And if the latter is the case then that is where we get the question of why he didn’t say anything. I cling to the latter because it is simply a cooler concept.

Yeah but we don’t fight him because he pulls his mask off to reveal that he was a double agent this whole time. We fight him because he’s trying to do what the light commands him to do, despite the destruction it would cause to our world.

He still might be. There’s always the possibility that he had been sent with the intention of infiltrating but came to actually fight for the light. Either because he was overcome by its goodness and genuinely chose to, or because it is more like brain washing.

Tbh I think it’s more so he took on the light for the facade and caught light blinding as an unforeseen side effect.
Light blinding being the spoiler and key note in season 1 of midnight. If you don’t know what that is. They basically lose themselves and become enraged and controlled by the light. Anyone and everyone can be considered an enemy if they oppose them.

Because Shadowlands was a major hack job on the lore… so many established facets of the universes lore were just retconned without a second thought during Shadowlands… The Nathrezim went from being an entire race from a planet that the Burning Legion destroyed that were immune to Fel Corruption, but willingly chose to join the legion in order to have their lives spared by acting as spies for the legion and prepare worlds for invasion.. to agents of the Shadowlands that infiltrated every corner of the universe… It was lazy writing… they went from having an interesting origin and solid reasons for why their actions so often undermined the legion’s goals in the most amusing ways, to just some flunkies for Denathrius who act on his every order with zero personality of their own… all the individual machinations of various Dreadlords that created conflict for each other… suddenly it’s all just Denathrius giving conflicting orders, because according to the new lore, they never act of their own volition… everything they do is to fulfill an order their master gave them.

The dreadlord lore has been retconned so bad. Originally they were a pretty sick & creepy mysterious vampiric race on a world known as Nathreza but then came along SL that ruined so much wow lore that the team is still trying to salvage on (thanks Danuser)

This, their collaboration was secret. There’s no reason why Denathrius would’ve told some random field agent.
It’s entirely possible he wanted to but was bound to secrecy by some Shadowland magic.
