So I just hopped on my realm Whitemane to switch my character “Lefty” to change the appearance of him and by the time I deleted him and created another one (a span of fewer than 20 seconds) someone snagged my name Lefty on Whitemane Horde. So I am making this post in hopes that I will find the person who managed to take the name. Hopefully, they surf the forums and we can reach an agreement for me to somehow get it back.

Try again, it locks the name for 2 minutes once deleted and takes that long for the cache to clear. It’s prolly available.
Probably not the best time to be doing that tbh.
I was just about to say this. OP Should have done that during the lockout phase as I did on my server to make sure no one will be making the 4th char my name.

I have herd this also but I don’t think it’s true. I was able to delete a character and Instantly remake them with the same name. Definitely no 2 min lockout.

You probably lost it. This is literally the WORST time to try to be changing characters around, sorry that happened to you. Next time get a friend with voice ready to hand it off.
Yeah, I’ve deleted characters over a dozen times in the past week and got the names right back. There may be issues right now because of the traffic though…the server I am on says I have 12 characters on the realm, but that’s not even possible.

Yeah I realize that now. Pretty unfortunate, but I guess it was bound to happen at some point. I realized I could have an undead without marks on his face and really wanted to change my main but my greed cursed me.
And this is why you adjust the appearance first or wait to readjust until a much more logical and opportune time.

People have programs running that are spamming the enter key to try and snatch names. Be careful out there.
It was still a little dodgy trying to do it last week, but now that they removed the 3 name limit people have taken nearly every single “cool” name and many are still trying. I’ve been holding off on changing my characters since then.
Yeah good point. There is no way I’ll find the person who has it at this point. Probably just a random alt that will never see the light of day.

I am currently using multiple accounts to hold names and I can confirm that the moment you delete a character the name can be taken.
The best way to avoid getting your name stollen is either hold the name on a second account while making the character, or figure out how you want your character to look beforehand in order to quickly make your character.
In hindsight… why would you attempt to do that when all these people went from 3 names to 10 per server? Of course people are trying to get the rest of their names now that they can reserve up to 10.
You should have done it late at night or early in the AM. I recommend you change the title to Someone snagged my Lefty on Whitemane…
