To preface, I did not lose a character, however speaking for those who did.
I just loaded the BNet App with a notice about a current DDoS attack, so this was self admitted as an attack against Blizzard.
In the United States, under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (18 U.S.C. § 1030) --.fbi.gov/contact-us/field-offices/anchorage/fbi-intensify-efforts-to-combat-illegal-ddos-attacks-- are an illegal activity. How can you (speaking to Blizzard directly), rightfully tell your customer base that you are not going to back your paying customers who lose hours of time because of this? Allowing players to lose hours, days, or even weeks of play time because of illegal activities of others just isn’t even right. Any other tech company running servers (including my own, that carry it’s own cyber liability with tech e&o insurance policies) would look at this situation and say okay yeah, this was on us for not maintaining proper protection or failover servers.
I know the others who didn’t lose characters or did in the past will jump in and say “UnDeR nO cIrCuMsTaNcEs”. I’m just adding that allowing your paying clients to succumb to illegal activities because of a failure point they have zero control over seems like a fast way to kill an entire community.
That’s all. <3

1000000000000000% agreed.
I did not lose any characters either but have enough sense to realize this is a big deal.

Inb4 someone with 5000+ forum posts comes to make some degenerate post saying how you should’ve known better to play during a ddos attack.

This needs more attention. Absolutely insane that blizzard isn’t fixing this. Just died to this. I am sure that I’m not the only one who will probably quit hardcore if I can just be perma dead from blizzard’s incompetence.

All I have to say is look at the Blizz Tracker for retail then take a gander at the one for hardcore wow. If they had no issue responding to issues on retail wow then they have no issues ignoring the ones on here and not just the ddos/disconnects but information regarding updates, bug fixes, QOL changes or any update since November of last year. My suggestion is to just spend you’re time elsewhere no sense in paying for a sub to play a game you enjoy while it sits in the backburner because you don’t pay for cash shop mounts or cosmetics so it’s not worth the man hours to maintain. to be fair the community should’ve never agreed to the wow terms for hardcore anyways it was a stupid term that we should’ve had outcry for before, but we just wanted the servers. So allot of it is on us. Either just go back to the hardcore addon or just unsub because they still have not made a response which is response enough to be honest.

Fix your server Blizzard. DDOS attack or whatever we dont care anymore at this point. We just want good realiable server (bare minimum as a game online company). We dont ask much.

Nobody lost a character, you can still transfer to dreamscythe
You really like saying that, don’t you. Everyone who had a character die on the hardcore server can no longer play that character on the hardcore server, ergo they have lost their hardcore character. Transferring that character to a PvE server doesn’t let them continue playing it on the hardcore server. Don’t be disingenuous.

the only solution to this is, to improve cyber security, I think. I hope for the best.
If only you clicked “I agreed” on something that said you wouldn’t be ressed for any reason before making your toon.
