Losing all your macros because your game DCs/crashes is BS

So I logged on today to discover I’d lost the 2 hours I’d spent creating macros. Why? Not because of a “bug” but because of a “design decision” that your work is “unsaved”. What the actual [blank]?

Thing is, your macros still are there in some zombie state because if you create one of the same name, it reappears magically where you had it in your action bar. So something gets saved.

But why on earth does anyone think this is reasonable UX? You click “Save” on a macro, it should be saved. You assign a macro to an action bar, it should be saved. Period.

Particularly because I would bet money on Blizzard having code that randomly kciks you off as an AFK test. You’ve theoretically got 30 minutes but I’ve seen this happen way too much where I’ve done not a lot on a session and, oh look at that, I got DCed. Weird. Well, it was weird for like the first 5 times until I realized there was a pattern.

I always log out after making macros to avoid losing them.

i got to ask…was the two-hour macro a ‘target named mob and mark with skull’ or some fancy borderline botting script? :slight_smile:

Nah, just setting up a bunch of macros for one of my toons and tweaking/testing them. Mouseovers and stuff. But it sucks to lose all that work when I randomly get DCed. It also sucks to have to remember to log out and back in every 5-10 minutes so it doesn’t happen again. More than annoying, it’s just plain stupid.

Backup your WTF folder, I’ve had this happen to me a few times over many years.

yes…that always sucks. :frowning:

/target Broken Tooth
/script SetRaidTarget(“target”, 8);

You think this is “botting” ? :rofl:

it took you two hours to write that?

That’s some next level conspiracy.

This game has a GCD and you are using macros. Are your fingers all broken or something?

I have 15 macros and I agree. Best to do is Log in and out. It an older game and comes with the territory.

The thought process of “The GCD exists so I don’t need macros” is lost on me.

Always log out after making macros.

I created 8 druids thanks to the love on this forum, created 2 days ago. As a multiboxer, macros are key.

Yea, if you DC, macros are all lost. Sucks. Had to redo them.

Save early. Save often.

In general you have a full second to think about what your next button press will be and press it. Don’t need macros, can just press the buttons yourself with approximately no efficiently lost.

#showtooltip Hearthstone
/cast hearthstone
/yell It’s not my time yet, mortals.
/spit

#showtooltip Evocation
/cast Evocation
/say Tears! Give me strength!

/tar Scarshield Qu
/run SetRaidTarget(“target”, 6)

Your macros are still there, the file just closed abnormally
just copy and paste them back.

This would happen in real vanilla also
they are in your WTF folder, you’ll see them, it even makes a backup file

This is the SOLE REASON you log out to the character select screen so they will save after making changes and then log back in. I tell that to my live stream from time to time.

After you’ve lost two hours of time you learn this and wouldn’t forget :slight_smile:

Do these efficiently, by hand, in 1 keypress

#showtooltip
/cast [@mouseover, harm, nodead][] Moonfire()
/script SendChatMessage("We got a runner! "…UnitName(“mouseover”) ,“YELL”)
/script SetRaidTarget(“mouseover”,8)

#showtooltip
/cancelaura Cat Form
/cancelaura Travel Form
/cancelaura Aquatic Form
/cast Dire Bear Form

#showtooltip
/cancelform [swimming,noform:2][outdoors,noform:2/4]
/cast [swimming] Aquatic Form;[outdoors] Travel Form; Cat Form

/YELL {skull}IWARNING Your healer {square}Gythriel{square} has just gone into bear form, This is probably not a good thing!{skull}
/cast Dire Bear Form(Shapeshift)
