So I logged on today to discover I’d lost the 2 hours I’d spent creating macros. Why? Not because of a “bug” but because of a “design decision” that your work is “unsaved”. What the actual [blank]?
Thing is, your macros still are there in some zombie state because if you create one of the same name, it reappears magically where you had it in your action bar. So something gets saved.
But why on earth does anyone think this is reasonable UX? You click “Save” on a macro, it should be saved. You assign a macro to an action bar, it should be saved. Period.
Particularly because I would bet money on Blizzard having code that randomly kciks you off as an AFK test. You’ve theoretically got 30 minutes but I’ve seen this happen way too much where I’ve done not a lot on a session and, oh look at that, I got DCed. Weird. Well, it was weird for like the first 5 times until I realized there was a pattern.
Nah, just setting up a bunch of macros for one of my toons and tweaking/testing them. Mouseovers and stuff. But it sucks to lose all that work when I randomly get DCed. It also sucks to have to remember to log out and back in every 5-10 minutes so it doesn’t happen again. More than annoying, it’s just plain stupid.
In general you have a full second to think about what your next button press will be and press it. Don’t need macros, can just press the buttons yourself with approximately no efficiently lost.
This is the SOLE REASON you log out to the character select screen so they will save after making changes and then log back in. I tell that to my live stream from time to time.
After you’ve lost two hours of time you learn this and wouldn’t forget
