Lore/Writing Team

Does anyone from the lore/writing team read this forum?

Most likely not, but even if they did they just wouldn’t care what people think

Gosh I hope not

Sometimes I think they read my posts. Lately though, a lot of my theory crafting has been off the mark.

So, its probably more likely that I know the lore and I have been able to accurate predict a few of their story lines.

We don’t even have blue posts here, let alone Blizz story team members. I sometimes forget that this is Blizz’s own forum since we’re left to our own devices here.

Sometimes the most salacious WET and GD stuff gets moved to the Story Forum, but that doesn’t mean the section topics are moved to has been glanced at by Blizzard.

I’m sure they have staff relaying information to them, but it’s highly unlikely they themselves are trolling these forums to gauge the community interest.

For instance, a post by former CM, Ythisens, on Zekhan’s unexpected popularity:

I don’t think anyone expected the Zappi Boi thing. In fact when we told people that Zappi Boi posts were the new hotness right after the announcement they were a little confused, “Zappi what?, really?, alright then why not?” I believe was the first response. Nobody expected him to be named that’s for sure.

I highly doubt they are even want feedback. Hell I almost doubt they have a story department.

For a serious answer:

Most night elf fans and faction apologist are most likely blizzard employees in disguise because they think “People arguing about horde/alliance stuff = good story”.

I hope not. I would be pissed if they were actually seeing this stuff and continuing to ignore what we are saying. Which is probably exactly what they are doing.

If anything they probably follow the general forum and we all know what a dumpster fire that place is.

I hope so. Every other outlet to try and voice my concerns/interests has been met with silence. This is pretty much the only place I can make my concerns known, because I want my money to go towards things I care about.

I hope not because most of what is written here is pretty stupid and nothing near actual criticism. It’s largely grown children raised on Blizzard products slap fighting over who got the worst present, with some occasional links to “TV Tropes”.

If they read this forum they would see that Horde Pride is dead and maybe for once they would revive Horde Pride and not punish us for playing Horde.

Well, where else do you reach out as a consumer to the person who creates your product? How else do you let them know “we want X” or “we don’t want Y”? This is, quite literally, the department where you would voice this sort of thing in regards to criticisms on the story.

Admittedly, there isn’t much of a form or structure for constructive feedback so the message is spread all over the place as a discussion, but genuinely, how else do people organize and communicate their interests to the people we pay money to, to happily continuing to do so?

Because, as a customer, if I feel that I’m being ignored, I typically stop paying for that service and go elsewhere. WoW isn’t a service I want to vote with my wallet and for many of us, I get the impression that they don’t, either.

Maybe it’s too much of an ask for communication, given how little these guys are paid (and god bless them, that they’re finally organizing), but, really, a means to effectively communicate our interests would be a godsend. I’ve seen this game at its greatest, I’m sure many people have here too, and we want it to return to that. It’s the same thing with communicating displeasure over the mechanical shortcomings of the current game. People’re posting about it, because they want it to be recognized and want to keep playing the game.

As far as I know, this forum’s just for posters to talk amongst themselves, instead of it being a feedback forum. Your (relatively) best bet would be posting in PTRs or beta forums, but I imagine it’d be like trying to course-correct a battleship by spraying it with a garden hose.

If you think about it, deep down we’re all technically part of the Lore/Writing Team, since we can influence the story…just we’re in another room.

I don’t think Blizzard pays attention to feedback on the forums. Usually, if something generates a large enough outcry, thousands flock to the general forums and Twitter. If the stink there is big enough, then big Youtube/Twitch personalities start to comment. And we do know that Blizzard is aware of what shows up on their radar.

But in that ecosystem, the actual quality of the story isn’t a super high priority. Like how often do T&A, Asmagold, or Bellular criticize the lore/prose of BfA or talk about how the War of Thorns really impacted the game?

No, the conversation’s been entirely dominated by Blizzard’s unpopular gameplay changes. The poor reception of Azerite gear, content droughts, allied race options, class pruning, the global cooldown, warfronts, island expeditions, warmode, daily quests, pathfinder, portals, etc. That, plus Activision layoffs, Blitzchung incident, and other PR missteps.

Gameplay is what WoW lives/dies by. Not story or lore. WoW can get away with a bad/flimsy story full of corny dialogue, retcons, lore inconsistencies, etc; just as long long as they deliver on fun gameplay and regularly released content. Burning Crusade and Legion are prime examples.

So while I’m sure plenty of the individuals who’ve written text for the Warcraft franchise have lurked here before, I don’t think writing is important enough to Blizzard’s success that they’d have people reading this part of the forums in search of useful feedback.

No.

The only forums that has developer contact is the technical forums and the MVP forums. I believe most of the CMs got canned except for janitors… Not even the Lounge gets and blue visibility anymore.

They don’t respond to any outside of outrage. Its why I really don’t have any sympathy for them anymore.

I doubt they take many steps out of the echo chamber they work in to observe what the masses are clamoring for.

Besides it is always gameplay that comes first, not the story.

Or perhaps your taste isn’t as universal good as you think it is and actual criticism of the stroy is legitimate. What could it be? I wonder.

To the question: Who knows? But I really doubt it. Listening to the devs talking about BfA they don’t seem to want any feedback.

This is about what I expect.
