Lorewise, wouldn't CoT: Classic make more sense?

I’m not quite sure how classic fits into the lore. It would be strange to wake up one day and all of a sudden its 15 years ago. I’ve seen the movie Groundhog Day, but that was just 1 day. 15 years would be odd, unless we were all just dreaming. But a Caverns of Time instance would at least make sense.

You want classic… to be an instance? O.o

How about we just declare 15 year “seasons”, and its time for a reset?

All your characters and gear will go to Open, so you can keep them, no worries!

Hey, it worked in Diablo 2

Trying to fit Classic into the current lore is doing it wrong. Everything that happened in Vanilla is the lore.

Do you think Blizzard cares about lore ever since WoD?

If you play Diablo 1, 2 and 3…and then go back to play Diablo 1, is your character going back in time to relive the events of D1? Or are you just playing an old game again.

Clearly the latter. It doesn’t fit into the lore, it’s just the same lore we had 15 years ago, being replayed.

Even if they were trying to fit Classic into the lore, we’ve gone back in time to an alternate timeline Draenor.

Hey, guess what! I have some news for you!

It IS an instance! Only players from your realm will be seen, therefore the entire world is one large instance!

Have fun!

Classic’s lore is already set up with the cinematic.
Chromie: looks at Azeroth, says “we effed up” resets time 15 years.
Arthas, and Illidan were the only reasons the legion and the old gods didn’t return, would Azeroth be better off with them alive? Both Illidan in outland and Arthas don’t want to destroy Azeroth. Illidan is loyal to Tyrande and Arthas just lives there, if Arthas wanted the world destroyed they wouldn’t have defeated the legion and stayed in Icecrown. There wouldn’t be a cataclysm if they were left be.

It’s a separate game with separate realms.

Just because it contains instances doesn’t mean it is one.

Is this thread for real? This isn’t a continuation of BFA… it’s a stand alone game. Who cares about if the lore makes sense?

even reverting back 15 years makes more sense than WoD but again… who cares?

IIRC Everquest does this kind of thing with progression servers.

Finally, a ladder reset!

Then it wouldn’t be classic, and I don’t want to play BfA at level 60…

But what if you didn’t know? Kind of like how some scientists think we may be in a simulation. Maybe classic was really in a COT instance already and we weren’t aware…

It doesn’t. Chromie went back to November 22nd, 2004, and branched the timeline. This is a completely different copy of the world starting from an identical base, and giving new (and old, but technically different) characters the chance to create completely new stories.

Did you have this much trouble imagining you were a different person when you rolled your second character? Seriously.

I’d very much desire for this to not be related to current WoW lore in any way shape or form, but it’s whatever. I’ve given up on it anyway.

The better question is how the heck does retail WoW fit into the lore of classic.

Okay. You enter the instance when you log in.
