Lorewise mages

Lorewise, do i have to be “smart” to be a mage? hard to relate to a caster in game who is super smart and irl im like normal lol, closet thing i have in common with “mages” are, i love to read, specifically Greek Mythos and certain biblical events…but thats it. im no mathematician or rocket scientist. plz give me your feed back lol.

Well the most unlikely mage race “Orcs” became a thing by an Orc chick going to undercity for a big studying session. And then passing it off to other people.

So yes Mages are typically the smart and wise ones.

Their culture does not value these teachings and it’s not common.

They are very capable of learning and they already have Shamans who are known for being intelligent and wise.

It’s just if their willing or not.

Tauren would be capable of Warlock and Mage classes they just don’t want that lifestyle of using arcane or fel magic.

have you seen their city and architecture ? its barely above nomadic level… if it wasn’t for the portal they’d still be stuck in the copper age.

Orgrimmar was built by goblins though. Cant blame orcs for how it looks.

look at it by dnd mechanics.

There are tons of spell casters in the game. Infact almost every class can cast spells depending on their advanced class.

Yet despite that only 3 use intelligence as a spell casting modifier: wizard, artificer, and eldrich blade fighters.

This proves you don’t have to be smart to cast spells. For some people it comes naturally.

Not really, no. Like most professions, you just have to have the drive to actually learn the stuff.

Not all athletes are olympian, etcetc.

ogres can be mages so I wouldnt say you need to be smart at all

There are exceptions, but most ogres are capable of two-three spells at maximum, so I wouldn’t use them as an example.

Wiseness is Shaman’s/Priest’s niche because of the way it is learned , but to be a mage it requires education.

Since mages use the widest variety of spells, in every WoW lore source they have to go through years of university.
So I’d say yes - you have to be smart and capable of book learning to be a mage.

Think of a Mage as a scientist.

The Arcane is a science in the Warcraft universe, after all.

Do you need to be a genius to be a scientist?

No.

Does it help?

Yes.

Can you compensate for your lack of smarts with hard work?

Definitely!

Orgrimmar was built by Goblins for Thrall and the Orc people.

The paying customers chose how it should look like.

That’s why Orgrimmar looks nothing like a Goblin city.

It looks nothing like any orcish city prior to it either. I’m sticking with it being a discount goblin design.

There are incompetent mages but they’re either destroyed by spells they were not ready to cast or most commonly, recklessly blink themselves into walls and suffocate.

No, just look at Cho’gall.

Okay so mages don’t necessarily need to be geniuses but it helps a lot. Mages fantasy is that they are knowledgeable. They have researched and studied the arcane secrets. They must have a logical mind and a good memory but they needn’t be intuitive geniuses the way Hollywood presents them with flashes of superhuman cognitive function that causes everything to fall into place for them.

I’m short they are hard working and studious. Being very smart helps but average intelligence is all that’s really needed.

Lots of ogres are super smart though. Most of the Gorian Empire ogres were very intelligent.

You could be a talented, but lazy one. One who learns fast but has an affinity for learning magic.

Most mages I see in RP profile are with “reading a book” in IC so, seeing not booksmart mages would be cool.
