Lorewise: Dracthyr are not cool, a classic class would have been better

Dracthyr are not cool, and the main reason is that are not a classic race part of the lore

I know that Blizzard tradition is to add a new class that is related to the new expansion theme, but let’s think out of the box for a moment, do we need to keep that mindset always?

Once in a while breaking rules is something good and needed. Blizzard could have made a side story for the new class, afterall all expansions are filled with a lot of cool side stories. And in some way eventually matching the side story of the new class with the main theme and story of the expansion.

We had a lot of great options, like battle mage, trinker, necromancer and so on.

However, they just made up a new class instead, living to the fans of the lore with our hands empty, and trying to probably make some kind of fan service to fans of insert whatever Blizz was thinking about

You Blizzard always did this perfectly, respecting the lore and inserting it into a new class. You did great with Death Knights, Monks and Demon Hunter

And actually you had break a rule, the rule of introduce a new cool into a new expansion

EDIT: I mean Tinker, not Trinket lol

Mechanically Drac’thyr are interesting, aesthetically and lore wise they are very boring. Big miss compared to prior hero classes, but I’m hoping they will be made to feel more interesting moving forward.

I agree with this sentiment.

Heavy disagree.

I have bacon for you, that would change your mind?

Profile picture checks out. Not trying to be discriminatory but it’s a big W if you like anthropomorphic races.

I am in disagreement!

:dizzy: :rabbit:

The prior two hero classes were based on edgy bad guys. WoW has no more established edgy characters to copy. Deathwing was the closest they could get.

Bit of trivia–I’ve been roleplaying since OG Classic, and even back then I played a character who was a disguised dragon. The reason I play worgen so much is because they had some similarities to being a dragon–claws, teeth, non-human features, etc.

I’ve played worgen for 12 years now, but only because I haven’t been able to play a dragon.

Until now.

So yeah…I’m pretty hyped.

battle mage: Already exists. We have mages, don’t we?
trinket: Don’t know what this is. Like, the gear piece?
necromancer: Basically a warlock, so how would that be interesting?

Hey I’m right for once 8) lol the hero class is fun just not my thing! I’m glad you got your turn.

Odd I disagree. I like that the dracthyr are kind of a blank slate. Seeing them curious about something and wanting to learn in the beta is interesting.

Also people complained constantly on the forums about monks being added. Maybe in a couple years you’ll be saying how great dracthyr/evokers are.

Presumably they meant Tinker, which I kind of agree with. Tinker was my most-wanted Class before I realized that having a dragon-themed caster class was even an option. I never even dreamed of that.

But my most-wanted race has always been drakonid. Except Dracthyr are even better than that because drakonid don’t have wings.

What seems weird to me is that they’d go an invent an entirely new race when the Drakonid already exist, and would have been perfect for this.

I’m guessing the OP means a more melee focused armoured up mage. Basically what the paladin is to the priest when it comes to wielding holy magic.

I’m also guessing they meant “tinker”.

When they did that test weekend a while back with the dracthyr NPCs scattered around Stormwind and Orgrimmar, I had so much fun tracking them down and listening to what they had to say. One of them was wearing a hat and talking about how interesting it was…a couple of them were talking about petting a dog (or a cat idk which anymore), two of them were eating ice cream and discussing it…

It was absolutely adorable and I cannot wait for more of that. Especially in the RP scene. Dracthyr are going to enable so much interesting stuff for our community.

Maybe, but Drakonid don’t have wings, and wings are so much cooler than not having wings.

Reptilian races are just hard to do. It’s hit or miss. Divinity origional sin did it the best imo.

A mage is a caster, ranged dps, the battlemage can fight melee. I wouldn’t disagree if they add a fourth specialisation to current mages for in order to become a battle mage, but make just a new hero class would be cooler

It is pretty much an engineer who pilot a robot, should be available only for gnomes and goblins

They work with different kind of magic, there are few exceptions in the lore to this rule but is pretty much like that. And I agree that from mechanics could be challenging make it different to warlocks

They’re very child like. Well I say that in a “when you’re young and curious about everything” way since most of our learning is when we’re younger.
