If so, it’s always showing or, just like in game, it awkward sprouts out of nowhere?
I don’t think there is any specific lore statement for or against demon hunters always having wings. We can only really go off of the way they look in game, which is why most people tend to assume that they don’t, but we don’t know for sure.
Makes sense… I imagine the playable Demon Hunters are more akin to pre-skull of Gul’dan Illidan with their metamorphosis being their after skull of Gul’dan forms, which would probably mean we don’t really have the wings outside of gameplay purposes.
Just going based on the Demon Hunters in the game prior to Legion I would say no the average Demon Hunter would not have wings as such outside of meta-form.
Based on Vengeance and their spontaneously sprouting and shrinking back spikes, I’d wager demon hunters probably consider their bodies (or at least their backs) fairly malleable, and use their demonic tendencies to reshape themselves as needed. Probably a bit of a minor form of the magic they use for Metamorphosis.
I see it like I would demon spikes.
Magically formed when we need them for a short duration…
Edit::
Just like the guy above me states ^.^
A lot of things happen to DH’s as they absorb more and more fel energy. IIRC they just continuously mutate.
I personally wouldn’t be jumping off so many ledges if I didn’t have the ability to open up wings when i needed them. That said, I’m partial to magical formation (like a partial-metamorphosis form), but they maybe could be folded up in there somehow…
I just assumed they sprout them when needed, like for gliding.
Depends, your demonic form canonically depends on what you “ingested” in terms of the Demon’s flesh, for instance a Demon Hunter who carved out a Fel-beast’s heart like the dog looking things we see running around would be more animalistic compared to someone who ate say…something more humanoid like a Fel guard or something.
This is a case of in-game WoW not reflecting the lore accurately, likely for time/financial restraints because the devs likely didn’t want to have to program in a few dozen DH appearances based on this lore tidbit.
