Lorewalker Roleplayers: What You Need To Know

So people have been getting on me about roleplaying a Lorewalker, so I have some things to say that it is lore friendly for me to do such a thing. Here is what I’ve done with research AND what I have figured out initially. This way I don’t have to constantly try to repeat myself when people complain about me being not lore-friendly.

1.) Lorewalkers CAN know things outside of Pandaria.

I had this one a lot, where my Draenei would know something (she’s a practiced archaeologist and historian) about different things outside of where the Lorewalkers were established.

The WoWpedia CLEARLY states that Lorewalkers ‘travel the world’
(Reference: https://warcraft.wiki.gg/wiki/Lorewalkers) so yes, a Lorewalker CAN know about Vrykul runes or various different historical things; archaeology is a form of historical study, so being a Lorewalker can get your foot (or in my case, hoof), in the door. The number of times I’ve had someone say: “Well, their world was Pandaria, that’s what it means!” then why are there Lorewalkers on the frelling Wandering Isle? Hmm? Explain that Mr. Unoriginal Nelf DK :stuck_out_tongue:

2.) Can only be Pandaren!

This one, while I might not have a lot of references, I can speak about what is seen in game itself. While Jinyu themselves can be Lorewalker (which easily debunks the only Pandaren complaint), it’s clear that ANYONE can be a Lorewalker, and why do you think I’ve deduced this?

Anyone can get the Tabard; if they didn’t want us to BE Lorewalkers, then why give us access to the tabard? Why give us access to the Flying Disc if they didn’t want us to use it and get Exalted with the Lorewalkers? Wouldn’t it not make logical sense, being exalted with them, to join them?
And anyone can be a Monk, why would be too farfetched to wanna be a Lorewalker anyway? What do you have against it? Also Lorewalker Cho, in the questing and lore, allows others to pass on knowledge and this opens up for people to be Lorewalkers.

3.) Why not be Explorer’s League?

The Explorer’s league has a Dwarven focus and study. Though they have resources to do other things, that is not their primary specialization. Though they are helping in the Dragon Isles, with the Dragonscale Expedition.

And they do have a lot of non-dwarf members… So what makes that different from the Lorewalkers?

And the League also have other things being a secondary and consequence of just being able to vacuum up everything due to economy of scale.

So this has been my dissertation on why it is lore-friendly to be a Lorewalker of any race.

Sounds like someone gave you a bad time.

Had to retcon as “Explorer’s League” for a short time merely because people kept whinging about it.

At least in the forums, I have something to link to when people get all antsy about me roleplaying a Lorewalker.

Which is odd, why care about it so much (not saying you are) about it? When I was Explorer’s League everyone was all normal about it, but as a Lorewalker people just kept complaining.

Some roleplayers will whinge about anything. There’s not really that much of a fine line between “bendy” and “freaky nonsense” when it comes to game lore, but they will whinge about it because… kneejerks. Lorewalker that isn’t pandaren having baggage associated makes no sense, though.

Roleplaying as dragons has baggage. But… Lorewalker? Really? That’s the hill they want to die on?

Lorewalker doesn’t have some major role that makes narrative demands. You’re a Lorewalker. You do Lorewalker things. It’s practically just a great excuse to go places.

Had one try to argue the WoWpedia link, saying: “OH they mean travel around PANDARIA, becaus that was they’re world!”

Then explain why they on the Wandering Isle too…

Im sorry but what in the actual hell is with MG doing this to people?!

Brah I would be flabbergasted if some dude on the internet was like
“Ahhhh, you are playing pretend wrong!” LOL like what?

Finding anything and everything to complain about. Usually when they’re on their lightforged scourged half Saiyain vampire that nobody complains about for some reason.

But Man’ari and Draenei lorewalkers is where a line is drawn. It’s a really weird RP server :stuck_out_tongue:

The list of RPers I’ve ran into and been yelled at for calling out because “what right do you have to tell them what they can or cannot RP as!”

I’ve seen:
1.) Spyro the Dragon (before Dracthyr, he was on the 12-b drake or whatever)
2.) Jedi, a shockingly high amount of Jedi.
3.) Two 1940s German scientists who invented portal technology and ended up in Azeroth, they were trying to figure out how to weaponize it for “Their Grand Leader”
4.) A Dwarf’s talking beard (was just a gnome sitting in the character model)

But ME being a Draenei Lorewalker is the thing people question, whoda thought THAT’D be the line, yeah.

Yeah, the RP servers, especially MG, is really weird like that. Things that are obviously not even possible in WoW are allowed and nobody complains. But if you try to take an actual lore class and make it work with another race?Suddenly people have a raging fit about it

And I’ve some similiar things. Boggles my mind sometimes :smile_cat:

Agreed. I feel like a lot of people are and will find always to be offended for the slightest of thing. Yet to let some stuff slide like the other things mentioned. They don’t like it, well that’s on them. They don’t own the character they cannot control what they can be or can do.

If people does not like a character rp design, either they accept it or just move on.

It actually got me ostracized from some RP guilds.

Had one get salty with me because her mage was a runemaster and knew runes. Doing our DiceMaster thing I rolled higher than her.

Apparently me knowing the Vrykul rune was breaking lore, because of the “Lorewalkers only know Pandaria lore” garbage, which I did mention I link them the WoWpedia article and they say the same canned response of “Pandaria was their world” which is funny considering there are a couple of Lorewalkers on the Wandering Isle.

I’ve figured they were just salty for losing the roll I guess and wanted some copium.

The other, I was trying to compromise because they told me the Lorewalker thing was weird. I said: “Then maybe I can be a Lorewalker among the Explorer’s League, would that suffice?” thinking this would work, they said this:

“Well, then in character I would question your loyalties because then you’re hedging on Lorewalkers, us, and the League.”

I just left those guilds because they kept pushing me aside (IC and OOC) and trusting the other archaeologist RPers more than my Lorewalker.

I once even gave the Wandering Isle answer to someone and they just put me on ignore as if they were angry I was right.

So I had to retcon being Explorer’s League for a while so people would stop whining at me or ostracizing me as if I was some social outcast from Goldshire.

Yeah I never got that logic, like why allow the outside stuff but if I wanna be a Lorewalker it’s egregious? I don’t get it. I mean someone had to wake up and decide that day.

It’s weird really, like some sort of odd kind of hatred of the game: “I hate this game so much I’ll RP as something that ISN’T in the lore, so anyone following the lore is a shill!”

Or they’re just not very smart XD
