Their allegiance isn’t to the horde or the alliance, it’s to Illidan, and their whole goal in life was to defeat the legion; they sacrificed everything to do it; even their own souls. So now that the legion has been destroyed, and Illidan is gone, what is left for them? If I was a demon hunter, I’d be feeling like I was in a sate of limbo, with no clear path to follow, or goal to strive for. I’d imagine most of them would fall into a pretty deep depression about now.
It’s the same scenario that death knights went through. Do what they did.
That’s YOUR character’s opinion. In the view of my night elf…the people I sacrificed everything for are still under threat. The skills I used in killing Demons fit just well for killing Horde.
This.
Makes no sense that a Night Elf Demon Hunter would just stand back and watch the Horde destroy their people, even if they aren’t exactly loved by Night Elf Society.

This is the approach mine took as well. His goal was and continues to be defending his people.
They are more loyal to Illidan and their comrades than the stupid horde or alliance, although some DH Nelves probably will help their people in their time of need

You really have forgotten the cinematics which show why the bulk of demon hunters signed on with Illidan. Here’s one clue it wasn’t the thought that the idea of Demon horns growing out of their heads and burning their eyes out was going to improve their chances on date night.
The bulk of the demon hunters who came to Illidan were people who had lost loved ones, their dignity, and every shred of hope. They came either seeking vengeance or to make sure that someone else didn’t suffer as they did.
Also if you picked Atrius as your second in command, you were one of those Demon Hunters who expressed doubts about the way Illidan ran things in Outland.
Depends on the specific Demon Hunter as to who they are loyal to. People like Altruis seem more clearly aligned to their morality. But more to the point, this comes up a lot. ‘Where are they?’ And I think it, again, comes to the individual. Vengeance, defense, hopelessness, etc. All had various reasons for joining the Illidari. Wherever they are mentally depends on that motivation.
For example, my Demon Hunter’s in-character motivation was helping Quel’thalas. Therefore he still serves them, seeing it as his mission with the Legion largely knocked out. But some might be tracking down other demons to ensure they remain dead forever or don’t have strong groups. Some might be apathetic or seeking ways to heal Azeroth. The class is diverse like most, in spite of their extremism and primary mission.
Well, now they’ve got the faction war to keep them motivated!
But the canon leader is either Kayn since he is with Khadgar in the DH camp in Azsuna when you play any class except DH or Korvas which is present to “represent” the DH in the artifact depowerment.
However I am sure the most of the DH nelves probably won’t be happy with the horde and are buying their time, also blizzard then to forgot then as we saw in Argus they weren’t present despite of having their own spaceship.

The Illidari had their own invasion point in the Antoran Wastes at the northern end separate from the two Lightforged ones. They were remembered.
The Legion is gone.
They joined to fight fire with fire to protect their people.
Now that the threat is gone they can go back to their home but will have to live with the price they had to pay until they die.
But not as importans as they should be, in fact the ebon blade played a more active role in wotlk than the illidari cameos
It’s possible that the Illidari along with Council of the Black Harvest are dealing with the fallout of the Legion fall, with demons with not master to serve it either fight for dominance and/or are causing trouble on Azeroth.
Tehd and Marius hunting a demon in Zandalar could be a nod to that.
I see both the Demon Hunters and the Death Knights camping out in their class halls instead of participating in this stupid faction war. They’ve always been more concerned with bigger threats.

and their whole goal in life was to defeat the legion
This is not technically accurate. Their goal was to protect their home, families, etc at all cost. The Legion was the primary threat. So, yes they were pretty focused on taking it out. But, that energy and motivation to protect was the actual core reason, and it remains. There are not exactly a lack of threats to their homes. So, they will find new targets to fight against.
I am guessing some would sit out the faction war. Some preferring to hunt legion remnants, dig into the old gods and such. Other resting and preparing for the next big fight. But, some would see the war as a threat to their home and families and so would fight. Given what is happening, I would guess more of the Night Elf demon hunters would join the war than Blood Elf. After all, their home was ravaged. While Blood Elves may be kind of threatened, the war has not really effected their home. And, is really not super likely to. So, some will fight for the Horde, but I am guessing less than the Alliance side.

From a night elf Demon Hunter’s point of view, the Horde just managed to do what the Legion failed to do… turn her people into an endangered species.
The Horde is more of a threat to the Night Elves now than the Legion was on it’s best day.
Presumably a Blood Elf DH feels much the same way about the Alliance.
Yes, join this stupid war so the Alliance can fail your race yet again. A blood elf DH could be interested in defending Silvermoon, but would have zero interest or motivation in Sylvanas’ goals.
The fate of Azeroth is more pressing than the umpteenth millionth time the mouth-breathers had yet another spat. No one wins if Azeroth dies.

So you’re basically saying that the Night Elves who gave up everything…even comity with their own society to protect their own from the Legion should just roast marshmellows while Teldreassil burned?
From the point of view of this DK, if her people die out completely, Azeroth can go hang for all she cares. Let the Diamond Dwarf do his research thing and save the planet. Her skills are more urgently needed elsewhere.
The Demon hunters became what they are because they felt the horde and alliance weren’t commited enough to ending the Legion threat. If anything, they’d conduct their own little war without joining either faction. You think a night elf DH would adhere to a faction who’s still more concerned with morality than winning a fight like in Dazar’alor? No, they’d put the “fun” in the Zandalari’s funeral.
