I’m trying to determine if there’s some magical component to Monks ability to delay pain, or if I’m supposed to believe that when Ragnaros hits them, they’re just so drunk it’s delayed.
Monks, by and large, are a hard sell to my brain that’s thinking “Oh give me a break.” I’m hoping you can help me, wow forums.
I do not think lore can explain gameplay mysteries. I mean, they are Brewmasters after all, probably some sort of pain delaying brew that they drink every morning every day.
So lorewise, when my monk drinks to be able to tank, it’s tea. It’s all tea. That’s what brewmaster means and I’m sticking to it.
Some of the brews are magical, yes. They’re infused with chi.
That said, there’s a huge component to pain and injury and death that’s entirely mental. If you’re high on drugs, this can result in not going into shock as is natural when shot in the head. People who are high enough have been shot in the head and kept attacking.
Not only is this reasonably believable, it works super well in a magic universe. The monk uses a combination of discipline and maybe a little magic to avoid going into shock so the healing magic can work.
Take a gander at drunken boxing Kung Fu. In that nothing you do involves being drunk, it involves making your avoidance techniques look accidental. I think that was the inspiration for it, and beyond that it’s just game mechanics.
Being dunk can have some advantages like not tensing up and braking bones instead you just go with the flow i suggest if you cant understand drunken martial arts -its real- then watch drunken master
