Sorry if this is not the right place, but I didn’t see an area for lore…
Why is the ruler of Ardenweald the Winter Queen? There’s nothing wintery about the zone.

“Thus, their winter came during war.”
Aka, they died in battle.
“Winter is coming… / Winter has arrived…”
Aka, Death is coming / Death has arrived"
Spring is birth/rebirth, summer is youth / life, fall old age, winter is death.
Ancient nations, as well from medieval to industrial revolution many peoples across the globe used seasons to describe life and death.
So, in the future, you can always check the World’s End Tavern section of the forums. There’s a story board there for questions like these. General Discussion works fine too though.
From what we know, Ardenweald is the reflection of the Emerald Dream, and the Emerald Dream is a representation of Spring and Summer. Ardenweald, on the flip, represents a more Autumn / Wintery idea in the form of things like Rebirth and long slumber / hibernation.
It’s less about a literal meaning of Winter and more about what is done throughout the Winter for the forest, which is rest, recovery, and returning better than before.
Thank you both!
It may be a loose connection, but I saw her as a mirror of the Norse goddess Skadi. Skadi is associated with winter, wilderness and the hunt. The Wild Hunt in Ardenweald is how I figured there was some relation.
Ardenweald has strong Norse mythology vibes and references (Wild Hunt, etc.). The Winter Queen is a reference to Skadi, the Norse deity of winter, hunting, skiing, etc. associated with the underworld.
There might be seasons in Ardenweald that we are unaware of. We’ll have to see if a winter does indeed come. If not, it seems like a design decision more than anything.
Thanks! I’ll have to look her up.
